Summary[edit]

Description
English: Pearl (ship).

The steamer Pearl (foreground) moored above the Victoria Bridge (second temporary structure ) in 1896.
On Thursday 13 February 1896, at 5.05pm, the Pearl left Queen's Wharf for the Musgrave Wharf, South Brisbane with between 80 and 100 passengers, following the closure of the temporary bridge structure as a result of flood damage. Passing between the steamer Normanby, and the Government steamer Lucinda, the Pearl was carried onto the Lucinda's anchor chains and capsized. Approximately fifty people drowned.

The hulk of the Success is in the background. (Information taken from: The Queenslander, 22 February, 1896).
