Kategorie niższego zagrożenia

Kategorie i kryteria z 2001 roku (wersja 3.1)	Opis	Kategorie i kryteria z 1994 roku (wersja 2.3)
	Least Concern (LC lub LR/lc), najniższego ryzyka. Nie kwalifikuje się do oznaczenia kategorią większego ryzyka. Powszechnie występujące i obficie reprezentowane gatunki (ang. "taxa") są oznaczone tą kategorią.
	Near Threatened (NT lub LR/nt), bliskie zagrożenia (bliskie zakwalifikowaniu się lub prawdopodobnie do zakwalifikowania się do kategorii zagrożenia w niedalekiej przyszłości)
Kategoria przedawniona (nie stosowana obecnie)	Conservation Dependent (LR/cd), niższego ryzyka/uzależniony od zabiegów ochronnych (ang. "the focus of a continuing taxon-specific or habitat-specific conservation program targeted towards the taxon in question, the cessation of which would result in the taxon qualifying for one of the threatened categories below within a period of five years").

	Vulnerable (VU), gatunki o stosunkowo wysokim ryzyku wymarcia, które mogą wymrzeć stosunkowo niedługo, choć nie tak szybko jak zagrożone
	Endangered (EN), zagrożone, przypisuje się im bardzo wysokie ryzyko wymarcia w niedalekiej przyszłości.
	Critically Endangered (CR), krytycznie zagrożone, najbardziej zagrożone wymarciem w naturze gatunki.

	Extinct in the Wild (EW), jedyne znane egzemplarze zachowane/jedyni znani osobnicy zachowani w hodowli, lub w ogrodach zoologicznych, lub w postaci sztucznie utrzymywanej populacji poza dawnym zasięgiem terytorialnym (ang, "naturalized population (or populations) well outside the past range").
	Data Deficient (DD), brak konkretnych danych, aby móc stwierdzić bezpośrednio lub za pośrednictwem innych procedur/danych, ryzyko wymarcia.
	Not Evaluated (NE), jeszcze nie oceniane wg kryteriów.
	Possibly Extinct (PE), możliwie wymarłe, kategoria nadawana przez BirdLife International. Podkategoria CR.
	Possibly Extinct in the Wild (PEW), możliwie wymarłe na wolności, termin stosowany w ramach oznaczeń IUCN Red List. Podkategoria CR.
	Extinct (EX), wymarłe, nie ma uzasadnionej wątpliwości, że ostatni osobnik wzmarł.
