| Description |
English: Stile or footbridge? This construction is simply a means of getting over the wall. In answer to the question as to why there is not simply a gate in the wall, the latter is in fact part of the flood prevention measures for the River Trent. This side of the wall is the floodplain, the other side is the Beeston Canal. If the waters of the trent should ever breach this wall, the Canal would provide an unimpeded route into the centre of Nottingham. The wall is one of a number of measures taken recently to raise the height of flood defences along the Trent in the expectation of ever higher flood levels. |
