English: Various views of victims and survivors of the liner Lusitania in the streets of Queenstown in 1915 Published by the French weekly Le Miroir, May 23, 1915. Approximate translation of the text: 1,500 victims! This is the result of the monstrous crime committed by Germany, in defiance of the laws of war and humanity. 761 people were rescued, but 45 of them died after being rescued. (...) Here are some photographs of the actors in this drama. Captain Turner, commander of the Lusitania, which sank with the ship and were miraculously saved; the old fisherman William Bull, who brought 140 people in his boat; Seaman Jack Roper who saved the captain. Mr. Vanderbilt, who sacrificed himself to save a woman; impresario Ch. Froman, who drowned, Mr. Julian de Avala, Consul of Cuba in Liverpool, which sank three times before being drafted. Then here is a young American, the only survivor of a family; wounded and dressed in suits donated by the people of Queenstown survivors; the parents of victims awaiting information offices of the Cunard Line. |
