עם דר' נורמה פרנקלין, ראש פרויקט החפירות של תל יזרעאל. הסיור נערך במסגרת "כנס שומרון הרביעי" שהתקיים בבית זמיר בישוב מבוא דותן ביום כ"ב ניסן תשע"ד בחסות מדרשת שומרון ומרכז קטיף.

תל יזרעאל הוא אתר ארכיאולוגי בגבול עמק יזרעאל והרי הגלבוע, כקילומטר מדרום-מזרח לקיבוץ יזרעאל. מקומה של יזרעאל הקדומה.

תל יזרעאל נמצא בנקודה אסטרטגית השולטת על נתיב מרכזי ההולך מצפון השומרון אל עמק הירדן והגלעד. חפירות שנערכו במקום הראו כי התל היה מיושב לסירוגין מאז תקופת הברונזה התיכונה ואילך. לשיא חשיבותה הגיעה העיר בימי עומרי ואחאב, והיתה זירתם של כמה מהדרמטיים שבסיפורי המקרא (מל"א כא; מל"ב ט-י): רצח נבות היזרעאלי בפקודת המלכה איזבל, נבואת אליהו לחורבן בית אחאב והגשמת הנבואה בידי יהוא.

לדעת החוקרת מדובר במצודה קידמית שנבנתה על-ידי ממלכת ישראל, בימי עמרי-אחאב, ונועדה להגן על המבוא לדרכים המובילות לבירה: שומרון. בין השרידים התגלו שרידים המעידים על קיום כרמי גפנים.
