| Description |
English: The Wey and Arun Canal at Highbridge, near Alfold, Surrey. The Wey and Arun Canal was opened in 1816 but by the middle of the century it was facing increasing competition from the new railways. By 1871 it was bankrupt and abandoned. Parts have almost completely disappeared but the Wey & Arun Canal Trust is slowly reviving other parts. This section runs through the garden of a house. |
