Description
English: Capt. William E. O'Brien, commanding officer of D Company, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion addresses Marines from his company during a short but poignant gathering May 26, 2006 at Camp Smitty. The 35-year-old from Moline, Ill. gathered the Marines together in one of the camp's large, empty warehouses and explained the history behind Camp Smitty, the important role it played in the Marines' mission south of Fallujah, and, lastly, but with the most detail, the Marine for whom the camp was named after, Lance Cpl. Jonathan L. Smith.
