Converted to SVG by User:Closeapple using PDF2SVG (also described at [2]) and given 1% internal margin using Inkscape. The low nominal resolution was apparently such on the original document; the white "burst", in particular, has finer detail when this file is viewed at higher resolution.

According to the CDC memo "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Logo Guidelines": "CDC's logo is not in the public domain, but is a proprietary trademark — thus it can be protected under Federal Trade Commission (FTC) law." That is, it is a common-law trademark for trademark purposes. For copyright purposes, however, it is a work of the United States federal government, and thus is in the public domain for purposes other than trademark protection.
