Description
English: The Mediterranean Sea (Mar 19, 2003) -- Aviation Ordnancemen load a two-thousand pound Joint Directional Attack Munition (JDAM) on an F/A-18C Hornet on the flight deck of the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). JDAM's are guidance kits that convert existing unguided bombs into precision-guided "smart" munitions. The tail section contains an inertial navigational system (INS) and a global positioning system (GPS). A JDAM improves the accuracy of unguided bombs in any weather condition. It is launched from any fighter or fighter-attack aircraft in the Navy's inventory. Harry S. Truman and her embarked Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW 3) are currently deployed and on station in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Justin S. Osborne.
