| Description | Photo of Union Pacific 9043, a 4-12-2 locomotive, pulling freight near Omaha. This was an UP class 4 locomotive, built by Alco in 1929. |
| Date | Card wasn't mailed. Copy reads that the locomotive was still on active duty at the time the postcard was produced. Most steam locomotives for major railroads were retired prior to 1960. UP's exception to this is en:Union Pacific 844, which is kept on their active roster for ceremonial purposes. The railroad once owed 88 of these locomotives; only one survives-en:4-12-2, UP 9000. The rest were retired and scrapped as diesel locomotives took over all work. |
