Description
English: Univerzitetska biblioteka„Svetozar Marković“ je naučna biblioteka Univerziteta u Beogradu i nalazi se u zgradi u Bulevaru kralja Aleksandra 71.Na inicijativu našeg poslanika u Vašingtonu, dr Slavka Grujića, Karnegijeva zadužbina, koja je do tada već izgradila čitav niz biblioteka u svetu, prihvatila je da odobri 100.000 dolara kao poklon srpskoj vladi za gradnju i opremanje jedne biblioteke u Beogradu. Profesor dr Slobodan Jovanović, tadašnji rektor Univerziteta, uspeo je ličnim zalaganjem da ta materijalna sredstva uveća državnim kreditima, kako bi se izgradila jedna veća biblioteka, koja bi zadovoljila potrebe Univerziteta. Grad Beograd je poklonio zemljište, a projekat su uradili profesori univerziteta, arhitekti Dragutin Đorđevići Nikola Nestorović. Tako je podignuta prva i tada jedina zgrada u Srbiji, namenski sagrađena za biblioteku.
