Summary[edit]
DescriptionUpper Ballanea Burial Mound - geograph.org.uk - 56731.jpg |
English: Upper Ballanea Burial Mound. A short way down the Ballaleigh Road from Barregarrow there is a turning to the left to Upper Ballanea. Through the gateway straight ahead of you (looking north-west) is a large grassy mound, which was described by P.M.C. Kermode (former director of the Manx Museum) back in 1930 as a 'Cairn'. It now appears on Ordnance Survey maps as a 'Tumulus'. The mound is about 11m across and 1.6m high, and may be a Bronze Age burial monument. The only known find from the site is a single worled flint flake. |
