Иконографическая справка: Икона с 1614 г. находится в иконостасе придела архангела Гавриила Благовещенского собора Московского Кремля, куда поступила из царской казны. Она является центральным образом в пророческом ряду иконостаса придела. Особенность ее иконографии состоит в изображении на одной доске трех главных образов пророческого чина. Благодаря этому кардинально меняется смысл чина: предсказание пророков о Боговоплощении явлено миру в реальном, а не символическом образе сидящей на престоле Богородицы с Младенцем. Самый ранний сохранившийся пример подобной иконографии - центральный образ пророческого ряда главного иконостаса Благовещенского собора, создание которого связано с восстановительными работами в соборе после пожара 1547 г. Фигура Богородицы вызывает ассоциации с храмом, в котором пребывает Спаситель. Пророки Давид и Соломон, стоя по сторонам трона, свидетельствуют о приходе в мир Марии - живого храма, ставшего вместилищем Бога. Оба пророка в царских облачениях; их головы венчают зубчатые короны. В руках они держат свитки с текстами. У Давида - текст псалма 44.11: "Слышы дщерь и смотри и преклони ухо твое и забудь народ твой и дом отца твоего", у Соломона - перефразированный и дополненный текст из Книги o Премудрости Соломона (5.8): "Что пользова нам гордыня, и богатство с величанием что воздаде нам?". Библейские цари Давид и Соломон, ключевые фигуры "дозаконной" истории, привлекали к себе особое внимание иконографов XVI в. В приемной зале русского царя - Золотой палате - трон государя осеняла фреска с изображением Богоматери и предстоящих ей Давида и Соломона.
