The Wulff construction gives the equilibrium shape of a crystal. The red curve is the free energy of the surface as a function of direction (for each direction, the length of the red arrow is proportional to the free surface energy). Lines t intersecting a brown radius line at the red curve can be tangential to the crystal shape. The crystal shape is indicated in blue.
