Summary[edit]

Description
English: Wymondham abbey from Tiffey valley The river Tiffey is to my left and the abbey which was founded in 1107 by William D'Albini, Chief Butler to King Henry I, as a Priory of the great Benedictine Monastery of St. Albans. It became an Abbey in its own right in 1448 and was suppressed under Henry VIII in 1538. Since then it has served as the Parish Church of Wymondham. Wymondham Abbey is one of the finest and most interesting of the historic churches of East Anglia. Its two tall towers dominate the countryside for miles around. Inside it is distinguished by its twelfth-century nave arcades, its magnificent fifteenth-century angel roofs and its remarkable altar-screen, designed in the twentieth century by Sir Ninian Comper.
