No source for neon colours - please revert[edit]

{{editprotected}}

May someone please revert this version to the last version? source: http://www.vexilla-mundi.com/menu.htm I don't see this neon colours version anywhere and there's no source for the present version. Thank you. --Geitost (talk) 09:06, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PS: Otherwise please tell me the source for this current version and why it shouldn't be the other colour version. ;-) I just don't understand it up to now. --Geitost (talk) 09:22, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done This isn't Wikipedia. We don't have any policy about citing things. We're a repository of media files, how you use them is up to you. The reason these colors should stay the way they are is because that's what the original author made them. You're free to upload your own version. Rocket000 (talk) 00:42, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Down with the neon colours[edit]

See the source of the File:Flag of Russian Federation.svg. It is the Federal Constitutional Law on the State Flag of Russian Federation, which passed in Duma on 2000-12-08, in the Federal Soviet on 2000-12-20, and was signed by President Vladimir Vladimirovič Putin on 2000-12-25. And the source is available on-line. What beauty. -- Bugoslav (talk) 04:55, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plus, the neon colours are not even available any more, see the current contents of "the great link": http://www.kremlin.ru/articles/state_insignia_01.shtml
Bugoslav (talk) 04:58, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I do not understand why it is that other users do not allow this file to be changed in accordance with the Federal Constitutional Law. I will not presumme on the reasons.
This is why I propose that {{PD-RU-exempt}} tag should be removed, since the file doesn't represent the Flag of the Russian Federation as specified in the Federal Constitutional Law.
This also mean the removal of the template.
Bugoslav (talk) 23:13, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
First somebody insisted that Kremlin must be correct, and now when we have the document (http://document.kremlin.ru/doc.asp?ID=5168&PSC=1&PT=3&Page=8) somebody again insist that the neon colours would be kept and thus continuing the "contamination". The link I supplied here is an official document of the Russian Federation, and one would expect that people generally interested in the stuff would know about it. The document is an authentic facsimile, it can be browsed page-by-page, and it is sealed with the seal of the President of the Russian Federation. -- Bugoslav (talk) 00:03, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I see [1] but now this is not the only source, we have the official source that has been signed by then president of the Federation, now president of the Government. The source you provided is what any webadmin might have placed there without the consideration of the specific and original piece of legislation. I do not know what is your interest in keeping the "neon" colours, because we know that any/all graphics expert would say it is not very good.
Colours used from the source you provided are:
  1. FE0000 red
  2. 0000FE blue
  3. FFFFFF white
But what any/all graphics experts would say these are neon colours, not real and I would say that those colours misinterpret the "real" colours of the flag making it not fit for the tag "official".
Why are you seeing those colours as correct?

Code without DOCTYPE etc.[edit]

The last edit reduced the code... which you can call necessary, xlink wasn't used at all, but a file without doctype and DTDs is not what I would call optimal code. •  Lirion (Λιριων, Лирион, ليريون)  wtf?14:58, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest with you, I really don't care about Doctype or anything like that; most of the other SVG flag files me and others edit do not contain them either (unless it was Inkscape junk). User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 04:54, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested Change[edit]

When rendered at low resolutions, whitepsace appears between the stripes. As such, I have uploaded a new version of this file at File:Updated Flag of Russia.svg with the stripes overlapped by 5px to avoid this. Mnmazur (talk)

Thanks, for some reason I couldn't get the code to work when done by hand. Mnmazur (talk)
Sometimes it helps to edit the code manually in Inkscape so you get a live preview and then copy'n'paste into notepad or something. This was how I learned (and I still do once in awhile because I don't trust my math). Rocket000 (talk) 18:00, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

February 2011[edit]

I think Zscout370 should have pre-discussed such a radical change of the file that's used in thousands of pages. The official server of Russia still shows the image of the flag identical to the one that we had before today [3]. Furthermore, the new colours differ from those in the file that Zscout370 has given the link to. They are way too dim. --Gleb Borisov (talk) 12:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should be fixed now. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 13:29, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Are you really sure guys your "faded" flag looks like official flag of Russia? Check these links, for example: [4] and [5] (yes, it's from www.kremlin.ru). — Radziun (talk) 21:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Radziun. I'll repeat that this rich version of the flag is shown on the official server of Russia. [6] The new version of the flag is quite unusual. --Gleb Borisov (talk) 22:19, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I do know that the Russian GOST document established Pantone (and some other format) for the national flag, but I am not sure what those colors are. I already reverted once Gleb made his first comments, but the cache is still causing me problems. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 00:46, 8 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Colours update[edit]

Until Zscout find his official source for the colours (which he seems to have put aside for now), I think it's time we start showing the Russian flag in the actual colours that are used. We've had discussion after discussion, but I can't see any real argument to maintain these unrealistic and un-sourced colours. I have uploaded an updated file matching the real colours as best as possible, and ask it be merged onto this file. My update file is File:Flag of Russia (update).svg Fry1989 eh? 20:36, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced is wrong; if you looked at the pages you seen two government pages with the ligher shades. Anything with darker shades have been reverted, if you look at the above discussion of "faded" colors. No matter if it is from the Kremlin website, gov.ru or anything official, these colors are what people want to go back to. Now, as for the actual flag itself, http://vsegost.com/Catalog/89/8980.shtml has the official specifications and there is no color code mentioned. The only thing about colors is that when it is made, Pantone must be used. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 22:19, 28 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
And what about the Kremlin document above? Is that not a source? It shows almost the exact same colours I use. Fry1989 eh? 02:14, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Go to the file page and see the two links there. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 02:23, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Only one works, so now we have two contradicting ones. Which is why observation is an important factor in this issue. Fry1989 eh? 03:23, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But I am also going back on at least 6 years of back and forth debate, reverts, and who knows what else. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 03:25, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Found official colors[edit]

I found a document about official colors.

In Russian:

http://zakupki.gov.ru/pgz/public/action/orders/info/common_info/show?notificationId=734557

Wow, just wow. I'm officially blown away. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 15:58, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm wondering whether referring to the red color of the Znamya Pobedy (Victory Banner) to use same color on the flag of the USSR? Because the Victory Banner was based on the flag of the USSR.--Sasha Krotov (talk) 16:20, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There was a Victory Banner created by Yeltsin and I seen that used at times, so the gold could be used for that. But with some of the changes by Putin, I have no idea. Though looking through various GOST files from the USSR, Pantone was not used maybe there is a chance it could have been matched as much as possible. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 16:25, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't find "Pantone OP 8010" and "Pantone OP 8021" colors. --Sasha Krotov (talk) 22:46, 9 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The set #2 looks out of place; from the rest the set #1 is both most frequent and average, so I suggest to stick to it. Hellerick (talk) 17:07, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Set #5 from official Pantone site, I think we need to use it. --Sasha Krotov (talk) 17:36, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, all of these options (except #2, obviously) are approximations of actual Pantone colors, and none of them can present the actual Pantone colors with 100% exact precision. I believe though that the option #5 could be used, not only because it is how my web browser displays the color on Pantone website (though it does so) but also because perbang.dk which gives this option seems to be the most detailed website on the list, giving a lot more specifications of these colours than most of other websites in the list - which display the table that is likely to originate from the same source. Still, both #5 and #1 present the Pantone colors far better than the current version, and I suggest to be bold and use #5 option at least as temporary approximations of the respective Pantone colors. I believe we all agree now that the current version of the colors does not correspond to the mentioned Pantone colors in any possible way. Flrn (talk) 23:03, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
in blue colors my eyes see no difference, exept #2 of course. I see only small difference in red colors. --Sasha Krotov (talk) 23:55, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I checked Photoshop and it gave me #0039a6 and #dc291e. Krotov, you sure you don't use any "color management profile" or something like that? Anyway, the colors are so close, that it doesn't really matter what we choose. Hellerick (talk) 04:14, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we can choose these colours, there is almost no visual difference. Flrn (talk) 20:59, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bearg (talk) 21:07, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sasha Krotov (talk) 22:22, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Support - I for one believe it should be changed back to edit of (13:03, 7 February 2011), or possibly even to the edit of (15:36, 3 April 2008). Lets be honest here. Most, if not all flags will look different under certain ambient levels of light, (inside and outside) hence, causing users to change/revert edits, just because people can not agree on what their eyes are telling them! The 13:03 edit looks convincing in most in-person or photographic images anyway. Until we, or anybody finds or gets the official government documents listing the official shade color, the edit that looks more "visually" appropriate to the viewer should be used. These annoying change/edit/revert arguments also applies to the Flag of the United States, and other flags as well! --Expertseeker90 (talk) 07:58, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The current setting IS from official documents, which is why visual observation is not acceptable. The matter is already settled and has been for 2 years. Fry1989 eh? 15:21, 22 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are they really? I've seen edits that had their last tweaking going back to 08/09, and get their recent edit or revert as far back as few months or weeks. Give it take at some point another major edit/revert will happen--Expertseeker90 (talk) 13:24, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The last change to the file was made 2 years ago, and it was protected for exactly the reason that those colours are proper. No amount of IP and new user whining is going to change that until there are proper sources otherwise. Fry1989 eh? 15:07, 5 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Official colour conversions from Pantone[edit]
