Corrupted EXIF[edit]

This photo, File:Missionpeak.jpg, shows perfectly normal to me offline (using XnView), but once uploaded the EXIF box shows nonsense information, dumping a huge load of ASCII in the image title field. Should I try to reload? (Tried purge already, to no avail.) -- Tuválkin 14:10, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this is the caption field of the IPTC metadata. It's a base 64 encoded version of the thumbnail image. How it got there, I don't know, but I supposed it's an error in the software that created the image. You can use this base 64 encoder / decoder to take a look at the decoded data. It should be possible to remove this field in XnView, though I suppose there's not much harm in just leaving it in there. --rimshottalk 14:55, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I recognized it as Base64 but it should not be appearing in our #Metadata table at all: Not only it is needlessly huge, but it even breaks the table and prevents the rest of the page content to be displayed. I’ll reüpload it after expunging the internal thumbnail with Photoshop. -- Tuválkin 20:52, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thumbnail date in the caption field, as Rimshot said I as I should have read with some attention. Extripped that with an EXIF editor and reüploaded. All good now. (Copying this from the village pump to the image’s talk page.) -- Tuválkin 21:09, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
