The size of the Wehrmacht helmet on the pole, as well as the bright clarity of the shield itself, give rise to the assumption that this image may have been retouched. 17:56, 1. Jun. 2008 87.79.64.162

Indeed. The sign itself is very strange. I mean, that fighting during the end of WWII in German ruins was not very static. This implies that someone actually made up a sign, which then was placed there, and had time to get into the wasted shape it is in. I think this is more likely some sort of internal "public message" for the troops or something that was retouched for the purpose of being in an army magazine. Speculation, but it just looks weird. Oh, and the warped shape of the sign makes it look more like paper, rather than something one would stick up on a pole. Ingolfson (talk) 04:59, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there,

I would doubt that the camera position was '50° 56′ 27″ N, 6° 57′ 31″ O' - I would, from knowing the situation first hand (over the last 30 years) and from the fact that the brick laid filling (Domplombe - see: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6lner_Domplombe) is visible somewhat above of and between the soldier and the tank, the position must have been somewhere here: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=50.940833&mlon=6.958611&zoom=15#map=19/50.94174/6.95612 at the corner of Trankgasse and Marzellenstr.

Hope that clarifies it a bit!

Kind regards,
