Deutsch: Hanse (althochdeutsch Hansa "Gruppe, Gefolge, Schar") - auch Deutsche Hanse oder dudische Hanse, lat.: HANSA TEUTONICA - ist die Bezeichnung für die zwischen Mitte des 12. Jahrhunderts und Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts bestehenden Vereinigungen, deren Ziel die Vertretung gemeinsamer wirtschaftlicher Interessen war. Zur Hanse gehörten vor allem deutsche und polnische Städte im Ostseeraum. Der Kaufmannsbund entwickelte sich Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts zu einem Städtebund.
