There is a section about removing invisible watermarks. Why would we want to do so? Removing invisible watermarks is like removing metadata, and it should be discouraged.--Pere prlpz (talk) 00:06, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I think the problem is in the sentence "Removing invisible digital watermarks should only be done if it is non-destructive to the image." Commons:Watermarks says "Invisible watermarks are acceptable, and should not be intentionally removed.". Any modified image should be uploaded separately with a link to the source mentioning whatever modifications we had done (including removal of watermarks if any) for a CC licensed file. From version 4.0 onward this is mandatory. Jee 04:52, 26 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Imgflip meme generator lower left website watermark, okay to upload?[edit]

I have made several memes using their convenient tool, but it leaves a watermark at the bottom left that just says imgflip.com Is that okay as long as it is my image with my text? I'm just using it for that great font and easy control of text. B137 (talk) 05:13, 29 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The font is w:en:Impact (typeface), so it can be replicated in an image editor. I recommend Inkscape to make adding that backshadow and black-on-white outlining easy. Additionally, it makes sense to upload the image without text (as long as permissions work out), and mark the overlaid text version as a derivative.
