Mitglieder der Habsburger-Dynastie herrschten jahrhundertelang über Österreich, Böhmen und Ungarn. Von 1438 bis 1740 gehörten alle Kaiser des Heiligen Römischen Reiches dem Haus Habsburg an. Im 16. und 17. Jahrhundert herrschten sie auch über die Königreiche Spanien und Portugal und deren überseeische Besitzungen in Amerika, Afrika und Asien.
