Note: The portraits published after 1810 are based on that of Mr. Andrews of Maidenhead, Kent, published in 1870 in the Memoir of Jane Austen, a Victorianized image. The 1870 engraving sentimentalized and reinterpreted in subsequent publications, with varying results. The faithfulness of all of these "portraits" is thus somewhat doubtful and Austen's relatives disagreed about their accuracy.
