Translations for language code vi, by User:Magicknight94[edit]

Kéo một hình chữ nhật lên tấm hình (ấn chuột trái, sau đó kéo lê và thả).

Thank you. I figured out that this must be MediaWiki:ImageAnnotatorDrawRectangleMsg/vi. Next time, please also indicate which message it is. I don't speak (or read) all languages, and google translate cannot translate all languages in a meaningful way. If we can't figure out what a text says, we don't know where it should go... Thanks. Thank you! All done, except the one above. Could you please also translate the "(may contain Wikitext)", possibly with a link to an explanation in Esperanto of the most frequently used markup? (I'm not sure if we have the special character hacks (s-x, or whatever it was) installed here at the Commons.) Lupo 10:38, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

Instructions, please?[edit]

Somebody has to write some decent instructions for the translators. I do understand English, and I develop software for a living, but this page left me scratching my head in befuddlement. "Just add your translations in the edit box below" ?? Ok, now I've done what the instructions said: There was one button that I wanted to translate ("Add a note", it said), and now I've added my translation in the edit box (the Norwegian (bokmål) phrase "Legg til et notat"). I clicked "Save", and guess what? Nothing happened. I am not surprised, rather I suspect the instructions are severely lacking in clarity. Or maybe I've brained my damage. Not quite sure anymore. - Soulkeeper (talk) 15:11, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Why? Up there it is. Now it is the task of an administrator to put your translation in the right place (in Mediawiki namespace, where you cannot edit). I'm going to do this right now... Lupo 15:15, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
And there it shows up. Lupo 15:17, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I understand it now, but as you can see I failed to indicate what phrase I translated, in my first edit. The reason for this is simply that the instructions didn't tell me to. The instructions are way too short and way too ambiguous. Or maybe it's just my brain, but I see that others have done this mistake too, so if it's not the instructions, it's probably a zombie outbreak. In that case: Watch your brain. - Soulkeeper (talk) 15:19, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

I agree that the translation page is kind of confusing/different. You would expect something like "replace the text after the (...)" or "fill in the spaces following the (...)". Without a preexisting form that you can fill in, the translator may ask himself "so what, I just add some translations somewhere around here?". The odd thing comes from the fact that you wouldn't expect someone to manually put each translation where it belongs rather than using an automatic process, so you may expect some forms that the machines can recognise and distribute the information where it belongs; and that is where the confusion comes from. I think that if you just specify that an admin will manually distribute the translations, will make it more clear to the users. --ANDROBETA 20:41, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Note: The language codes nb (Norsk bokmål) and no (Norsk) should be duplicates of each other. This is because of a series of bad decisions on the Norwegian wikis (no and nn) over the years. - Soulkeeper (talk) 15:33, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

  • MediaWiki:ImageAnnotatorEditorLabel/nb (inline elements only, inside a span):

All done, except the above. Could you add the "(may contain Wikitext)", possibly with a suitable link? Thanks a lot for your translations! (Also did the /no ones.) Lupo 14:54, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

Translations for language code mr, by User:Katyare[edit]

Thank you, User:Katyare, for volunteering to translate the interface of the ImageAnnotator gadget. Just add your translations in the edit box below.

Above, you will see a list of all the interface texts this gadget uses. The first five (up to "MediaWiki:ImageAnnotatorRevertButtonLabel") are optional. They use a default value from other system messages. You need to provide translations for these five only if the default was inappropriate.

Please add your translations in the edit box below.

(If you do not see any English texts above the edit form, click "preview"!)

The texts in your language are currently set as follows:

नोंद वाढवा

And what does that mean? For which message is this text intended? Lupo 12:13, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Google translates this as "Add comment", so I suppose it was intended for MediaWiki:ImageAnnotatorAddButtonText/mr. Is the Google translation correct? If so, can we have something more specific that "comment"? General comments should go on the file talk page. What's the translation of "Add an annotation to this image"?
