Add a new step aimed at already-published-elsewhere own works[edit]

{{editprotected}}

Please insert a new "Step 4. Has your work been published before ?", like this  :

Dealing with files like File:AuthsubDiagram.png, where we need a confirmation E-mail in order to ensure that the uploader is truly a Google employee, and not merely someone pretending to be a Google employee, is quite time-consuming, so it is better if people are told the good steps from the beginning, rather than afterwards, after they have uploaded the file, leaving some doubt on whether this is a rightful copy or not.

What would help to clarify licensing[edit]

{{editprotected}}

If for own work there was a page or section with the same lingo in the same order. I'm still trying to figure out how "Multi-license with CC-BY-SA-3.0 and GFDL (recommended)" is related to similar but not exactly alike categories in Commons:Licensing and Commons:Copyright_tags. I have a couple dozen good photos ready to be inserted in articles to upload. Thanks. Carolmooredc (talk) 15:14, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

I think the Commons is going to {{CC-BY-SA-3.0}} as the recommended license. I am not sure. If so, I don't know why {{GFDL}} is still in the license selector. I will put an {{editprotected}} tag at the top of this section. Maybe an admin can remove the GFDL licenses from the license selector: MediaWiki:Licenses/ownwork
Commons:Licensing and Commons:Copyright_tags need updating too. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:02, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
Wikimedia changed there license in a dual license with GFDL and CC-BY-SA so our recommended license should be both those licensing I guess, its better to bring this up in the village pump instead of just changing it. Huib talk 09:24, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

Permission field[edit]

{{editprotected}} The phrasing Is this work of yours already published elsewhere? [...] is misleading and results in "No"s in the permission field. I suggest rewording. --Martin H. (talk) 16:53, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

I agree, though I have no idea how to actually do it better, but we should probably avoid asking a question. --The Evil IP address (talk) 22:59, 3 October 2009 (UTC)
What about somthing like "If your work has been published before please help us verify that this is a rightful copy". Or maybe we could make a line with "No my work has not been published before." that inserts a blank? --MGA73 (talk) 09:38, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Fixed by Lupo in this edit. --The Evil IP address (talk) 19:06, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Costumes. This page:metadata.[edit]

{{editprotected}}

Please, under

"Works which contain other copyrighted works (derivative works) - these are not permitted, so don't upload them!"

please add a qualifier to respect WikiMedia General Counsel's statement. I suggest:

"Exception: Pictures of people in costumes of copyrighted and/or trademarked characters are not banned.[2]"

It should help this happen less.

Please add a comment at the top of the page indicating that this is the page used to create http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Upload&uselang=ownwork. I suggest: <!-- The master copy of this content can be found at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Uploadtext/ownwork -->

---Elvey (talk) 19:05, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

 Not done : The page should describe things commonly and only contain information relevant for most users, not concentrate on such minor stuff. Comment added. --The Evil IP address (talk) 19:14, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Multiple image upload from Flick as own work[edit]

Hi all! So what is the best way or tool to upload multiple images which are one's own work, from Flickr (or maybe Picasa)?

Thanks! --Codrin.B (talk) 23:59, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

If they are really many, you may ask a bot at Commons:Batch uploading. Be careful not to include any Derivative work. Teofilo (talk) 14:00, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Has it? Do you have any source on that? (I know an updated version of upload wizard is being prepared.) --Mormegil (talk) 13:41, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
The Bugzilla is inactive; the bug was not replicated, so it's pretty much defunct. Anyway, it wasn't a good reason to remove it in the first place. --theMONO 00:24, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
✓ Done Let’s try it, it’s marked as beta, and even if there are bugs, proper feedback should be welcome, I guess. --Mormegil (talk) 15:22, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Automatically adding user categories[edit]

Is there any way to have the edit form come up with a category automatically added? About 90% of my uploads go under Category:Photographs by User:Pi.1415926535, and it would make my life easier to have a link to an upload form with that category already filled in. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 17:15, 6 May 2013 (UTC)
