Northern Areas or Gilgit Agency is the northernmost region of Pakistan. It is home to some of the world's highest mountains including five of the Eight-thousanders. Most of the mountains, including K2, Gasherbrum, Masherbrum and Rakaposhi are in Karakoram range, but some mountains like Nanga Parbat (the second highest in Pakistan) are in Himalaya ranage.

Gilgit and Skardu are the major hubs for all expeditions in the Norhtern Areas. Another major attraction is the Hunza valley.
