English: The Northern Areas or Gilgit Agency, now the Gilgit-Baltistan with a provincial setup (established 2010), is the northernmost political entity under-administration of [Pakistan].
- Gilgit-Baltistan is home to some of the world's highest mountains including five of the Eight-thousanders. Most of the mountains, including K2, Gasherbrum, Masherbrum and Rakaposhi are in Karakoram range, but some mountains like Nanga Parbat (the second highest in Pakistan) are in western Himalaya range. The Hindu Kush range is in the northwestern section.
- Gilgit and Skardu are the major hubs for all expeditions in Gilgit-Baltistan. Another major destination is the Hunza Valley.
