The Starlifter is also famous for dropping an engine cover into a residential street in Richmond NSW Australia during the late 1970s whilst on initial climb when departing RAAF Richmond after completing its regular "mail run". The crew did not notice the loss until they reached their destination and it was pointed out by the ground crew. The aircraft had completed a flight of some eight hours duration with an engine cover missing.
