What kind of city is Rotterdam? The city of Rotterdam was known for having the world's largest harbour, but lost that title in 2004 to Shanghai. It is the second city of The Netherlands after, off course, Amsterdam, which lies ca. 80 km (50 mile) north. The cities street scenary is characterized by the large presence of people from North Africa, Turkey and the former colonies Suriname, The Netherlands Antilles and Indonesia. People tend to live well together, despite of recent tensions between the native Dutch and Muslim population in The Netherlands. You might find it difficult to get in touch with the heart of Rotterdam It's natural centre was bombed away during WW2, forcing the city to renew itself completely. Result is a lot of modern architecture (for the architect freaks among us a must see!), but also a city that does not really has a heart or a centre. It is better to discover this city with a local guide and when the weather is good (this aplies to every city, but extremely for Rotterdam.
When well prepared, you will experience The Netherlands like would never experience it in Amsterdam! For a good guide call +31645042443!
