Commons talk:Featured pictures, list

Is there any reason why this is a long list of images instead of a galery? Andreas Tille 12:33, 14 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I suspect that's because the page was started when we only had a couple of featured pictures. Perhaps we should switch this page to a gallery version, and have a seperate page with larger versions like we have now for those who wish to see the images in higher resolution? I've been bold and switched to the gallery system. I also created a few headings so the pictures are not completely unsorted. I had to create a heading for animations because they only show up right if they are shown in their original size. I think it looks quite ok, just revert me if it doesn't to you. Unfortunately, "gallery" syntax doesn't work fine with my Opera browser. Some pictures just don't show up. Does anybody know why ? villy 16:47, 21 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Strange. Opera is what I'm using now, and it is all loading fine for me. -- Infrogmation

I have had the same experience with Firefox. I assume it is a cache problem. I have used "Open picture in new Window" and have performed a "refresh" on this window. Afterwards, the picture appears fine. --Heidas 14:10, 8 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Split to several pages?

At the moment, there are more than 100 pictures on this side and there are several featured pictures added every week. I think, we should think about splitting this page to several pages of categories (Places, Animals, People, ...). Perhaps on this page/in this template there could be some kind of portal for those categories like that:

• Animals

» more ...

• Food and drink

Barrels of Japanese sake
» more ...

In this way, you can see some examples and browse the category you want. Of course this system has to be a template, too. Please comment, norro 15:35, 7 May 2005 (UTC)

Picture taken by satelite

All the images taken by satelite are not images of astronomy. Astronomy is the study of the sky and not the study of the Earth. A new category would be needed "Picture taken by Satelite"? --Luc Viatour 09:19, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

New format to allow translation

update TOC

Hi all

I tried to update the numbers and titles for the TOC to be correct (especially for the featured pictures page) but didn't think of the implications for translations. If I do end up giving it another go, should I simply update the list of categories here, like done above, to notify translators of the change? Is there also something else I should keep in mind?

Some internal links are off-by-one

In the "Galleries" internal link widget, the link "Fungi" goes to the Space Exploration section, the "Space Exploration" link goes to the Sports section and so on. This is visible when the page is transcluded in Commons:Featured pictures. Thanks in advance to anyone who can fix this: I can't see what to change. MartinPoulter (talk) 16:09, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
