Please put {{Deprecated}} in the existing <noinclude>…</noinclude> part. Users should use a CC-BY license matching the license of the YouTube video, as of 2014 this can be {{Cc-by-3.0}}, {{Cc-by-4.0}}, maybe share alike and other variants are also allowed.

Notably COM:YT suggests to use {{LicenseReview}}, in essence the same idea as for Flickr, only a manual review, not a review bot. –Be..anyone (talk) 17:58, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

The YT source for File:Wikipedia Edit2014.ogv has CC-by-SA 3.0 (note SA), for File:Flying over Becquerel crater.ogv it's CC BY-SA 3.0 IGO (note IGO), and for File:All_Writs_Act.ogv it's CC BY 4.0 (note 4.0). That's my complete list of uploads from YouTube, never hitting a CC BY 3.0 as hardwired in {{YouTube CC-BY}}. Maybe trusted uploaders can just pick whatever CC BY * they like? –Be..anyone (talk) 03:15, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

IMHO this template should only be used for videos that have been licensed using the YT licensing, not the stated (in the description) license by the uploader. Bidgee (talk) 05:42, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Automatic license review needed trigger?

Proposed changes to update the template for all translations

Since Template:YouTube CC-BY/i18n was last edited, it appears that some of the translations have links that are no longer functional (such as http://www.youtube.com/yt/copyright/id/creative-commons) or which redirect to different URLs. In addition, some of the translations include phrases from YouTube pages which have since changed. Listed below are a number of changes that would make the template more up-to-date. It might be useful to have others check the proposed changes with regard to the different languages; I used online translation to help with the non-English languages.

More specific categorization?

Currently everything with this template is categorized into "Media from YouTube". but shouldn't it be possible to test for the file's extension to determine which subcategory to automatically put it into? WEBM files go into "Videos from YouTube" and .png, .jpg, etc. go into "Images from YouTube" OmegaFallon (talk) 15:40, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

Add YouTube icon on the right

Hi, would it be possible to add the YouTube icon on the right of this template like for example Template:PD-USGov-Military-Navy? It would hopefully make it easier for Commons copyright checkers to quickly notice the difference with Template:Cc-by-3.0. The RedBurn (talk) 08:51, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

This template uses {{Cc-by}}, which doesn’t allow setting a secondary image. However, in case someone can come up with a design, I requested removal of protection from Template:YouTube CC-BY/i18n, so (hopefully) soon anyone will be able to experiment there. (For the changes to go live, a translation administrator needs to approve the changes, so on the one hand, don’t expect your changes to be immediately visible on file pages, but on the other hand, feel free to experiment, you can’t break anything.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 10:35, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Definitive way to check?

I noticed multiple screenshots from YouTube videos that have no CC license anywhere (i.e., not under the description like usual). I want to avoid deleting these. Is there some way to salvage them or any other way in which there would be a CC license? Chamaemelum (talk) 15:25, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi Chamaemelum, it's worth checking the video's URL at archive.org to see if maybe the file was licensed under the YouTube CC license but the uploader has since changed it. Because CC licenses are irrevocable, if a file was ever properly licensed as CC-By (or some other CC license, but that's the applicable one here) then it may still be distributed under that license. The other place to check might be in the video itself, in case the video was uploaded with a CC license in its credits/on some final screen or something; I've never seen this happen but it's not inconceivable. Absent of that, there's not much to be done; if there's no evidence of a free license then we have no choice but to delete. Bobamnertiopsis (talk) 19:55, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
