piano music accompanies titlecard with "Out of the Inkwell, The Tantalizing Fly." depicting a black and white jester with pen and inkpot. After titles a man in white draws a clown while a fly interferes. The clown starts moving and tries to catch the fly. The man goes to a colleague, fetches a swatter, returns and swats the fly on the clown's face. The clown falls amidst circling stars, rises and swings a pen spraying ink everywhere, including on the man's face. The animated clown draws a seated figure, the fly alights, and the clown swats the figure who complains. The clown jumps through a slit and appears on the back of the paper, which the man then pours into the inkwell.
