My 80,000th Commons edit summary

Getting started in February 2005, I wasn't too active until mid-2006. In 2008 and 2009, working at Commons was a major activity in my spare time.

What changed since 2005? Commonscat software, display of category content "(23C,99P)" and most recently (by default) MediaWiki:Gadget-HotCat.js which accelerates work and also protects double entries in one file ("Guard against double inclusions").

Deletion of Category:Painters by alphabet incl. sub-categories :-(

Skills (under construction): most maint. templates, some graphics software skills (IrfanView, Adobe Photoshop)^{my graphic work}, some online services such as www.tiltshiftmaker.com, www.pookatoo.com, www.glowtxt.com and simple online audio conversion (www.media-convert.com). Create geocode and embedded annotations.

Gedanken zum Kategoriensystem und zur Kategorienpflege

Ständig kommen neue Bilder, die meisten kommen in ein Sammelbecken (wenn sie überhaupt kategorisiert werden) ... was später mühsam durch einzelnes Aufrufen wieder sortiert werden muß. Solange wir noch im Wachstum sind und für eine Kategorie Zuordnungspotential besteht, ist die Einrichtung von Kategorien mit zunächst wenig Zuordnungen von vornherein sinnvoll
Es ist besser, wenn kleinräumige Kategorien vernünftig erstellt werden (Name, Ober-Kat., Defaultsort), als wenn Ungeübte sie falsch anlegen (z.B. nicht auf Englisch).
