Tip: Categorizing images[edit]

Hello, Etan J. Tal!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

No OTRS ticket[edit]

There is no OTRS ticket for File:Josef Tal & His Loudspeakers.jpg. If it's copyright status can't be verified, it will be deleted. Plrk (talk) 09:20, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

Dear Plrk, Please instruct me how to provide the requested permission. (BTW - isn't it enough that I officially declare this?)
Anyway - I have it in writing and I can fax it to you anytime. I suppose this must settle the issue.
Kind regards, Etan Tal (talk) 11:41, 9 July 2009 (UTC) Etan Tal
Hello! Please read Commons:OTRS and contact an OTRS volunteer for more information. Declaring someting doesn't mean much - on the internet, anyone can declare anything. Plrk (talk) 13:35, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
That is exactly the reason I would like to support my declaration with a document. I did ask an OTRS volunteer but no reply yet Etan Tal (talk) 17:15, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Do you have a better version of File:S-64 Aircrane.jpg?[edit]

Deutsch | English | Español | Suomi | Français | עברית | Magyar | 日本語 | Македонски | Nederlands | Polski | Português | Svenska | +/−

Thank you for your submission of File:S-64 Aircrane.jpg. While all submissions are useful, do you think you might be able to supply a better quality version of the same, or similar, content? In many cases, the largest and highest resolution possible is the most useful version to have available. (MediaWiki has automatic resizing functionality, so there is no need for multiple versions of the same image at different sizes, users can select any size and the software will generate and cache the needed resolution on the fly.)

If you can supply the same exact image as File:S-64 Aircrane.jpg at a larger resolution (or media at a higher bitrate, etc.), please just upload it over the original, users will get the new higher quality version with no further effort on your part. If on the other hand, the content is only similar, it is best to select a new image name, as there may be uses already where some aspect of the existing media was key to the usage. In the latter case, if you can provide a crosslink reference to the new image in the older one and vice versa, that will be extremely helpful.

Again, thank you very much for your contribution, it is appreciated.

I have uploaded a bigger file - hope it is better now. pls review my other contributions and comment which should be improved similarly. Thanks - Etan Tal (talk) 20:40, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

zionist stickers[edit]

why do you say that these are not zionist stickers? they are right wing political stickers, and most of them are about occupied territories... it seems to me like zionism. what's the difference? 11:22, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

The Zionist movement contains "right wing" as well as other wings. True, many of the right wing stickers refer to the occupied territories, but other parts of the Zionist trend strongly object to these slogans. Have a look at Zionism to have a better understanding of the term. איתן טל -Etan J. Tal (talk) 15:34, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
OK. I thought that zionism was something like "settlers movement". Would you agree if i indicate : "right wing political stickers"? Djampa
Most of the stickers are "right wing political stickers", but at least two are not: one urges the return of Israeli war-captives and missing soldiers, the other pleads merciful GOD to save us from our enemies. איתן טל -Etan J. Tal (talk) 14:58, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
OK done! Djampa 15:03, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Changing image licenses[edit]

I'm sorry, but you can't validly change the Creative Commons license of photos you uploaded to a more restrictive one as you did at File:AdaBrodsky.jpg, since these licenses are not revocable. Would you mind undoing any other such changes you've made? —innotata 00:47, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Done! Thanks... איתן טל -Etan J. Tal (talk) 00:54, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
Thank you! (For donating the images too, of course.) —innotata 00:58, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

Pide bakery[edit]

Hello there. Do you remember in which part of Istanbul you took the photo of the Pide (Pita in WP) Bakery? Thanks a lot. --E4024 (talk) 12:35, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Sorry - that was quite a long time ago, but I assume it was close to the Egyptian Bazaar...איתן טל -Etan J. Tal (talk) 16:12, 10 December 2013 (UTC)
