WTF?

Thanks a lot for deleting Rsz elbowbeachsurfclub.jpg; I had already mailed in the permission to publish it. Is there someone you can undo?

The OTRS-team will look into it. If the information was really enough, they will restore the deleted images and remove the warnings from the others. -- Cecil 19:49, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Just got the news that the information you sent is not enough. You will get a mail pretty soon what is missing. -- Cecil 19:55, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Not enough? Pardon me? I have several letters (the significant parts of which were bolded) from the creators of the majority of photos I posted (including Rsz elbowbeachsurfclub.jpg) expressly stating that I have permission to use them. Further, Wikimedia Commons already replied affirmatively.

All I'm trying to do is assemble a series of pages on a DIY independent label in Guelph - partly as a way of documenting cultural progress in my area. It's a good thing. That after I've sent in thorough permission I should be continually harranged by this site's bureaucracy over paltry details seems overbearing, particularly in light of the fact that these photos ARE NOT EVEN COPYRIGHTED. They all exist in the public domain. I understand certain trite concerns may exist, but seriously, what gives?

You received a mail yesterday. could we keep that subject at OTRS please? It's kinda confusing. Just check your mails ;-) Regards, Code·is·poetry 21:06, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi ABF, my image is properly identified as mine, with my own credits. I created it and I have the original PNG file to prove it. I'd like to see it resolved. Thanks.

From what I can figure out this is all because Creative Commons licenses are not compatible with GFDL - if I remove Zidane's picture is it okay? Please help... I'm strongly lost in all of this! And the image in question was the result of a long and strenuous vote in the english wikipedia... The Ogre 14:45, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, thats it. GFDL and CC-licenses are incompatible. Regards :) abf /talk to me/ 15:33, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
"there is also the possibility to read the licenial texts"
That's a smart one. Thanks for your help pal ! You requested the deletion of this image, the least you can do is to mention which pics you believe have an incompatible license - Wikig | talk to me | 15:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Shall that be a polite way of you to say 'You are an ashole'? It really sounded a bit like that.
But to explain myself, reading the Licensing-issues is always better than getting the one problem served on a silver-table. Regards, abf /talk to me/ 15:33, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
That is a way to say that you are not being very helpful, your way to exercise an otherwise useful task is quite peremptory IMO - Wikig | talk to me | 09:04, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Deleted record label

Hello,

It seems that you some time ago deleted Image:Columbia1116D, a scan of a 1920s record label I had uploaded. Since no comment was left on my talk page I have no idea why you did this, and the action seems even less understandable considering that the many contemporary label scans found in Category:Columbia_Records have not been deleted. Perhaps a mistake? /FredrikT 11:58, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

The copyright holder dyed in 1961, wich is to less for PD-old. Sorry. abf /talk to me/ 12:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me, but which copyright holder are you referring to??? The (most probably unknown) designer of the label? The founder of Columbia records (who probably had nothing to do with the label design)? And what would make my scan any different from the other contemporary Columbia labels in the category cited above? /FredrikT 08:14, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Restored and requested for regular deletion. Regards, abf /talk to me/ 12:02, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Grüße, abf /talk to me/ 05:21, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

De-adminship procedure

I was very surprised at being de-admined today. After receiving your first inactivity notice, I went away to be active again. I still want to be an admin, because I think this is the most productive role for me, maximising my utility to the Commons.

However, I have unfortunately overread the part about signing the page at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section/Feb-Mar 2008 and hence have not done it – not because I am not interested in being an admin. Is there any chance you could undo this and make me an admin again? Otherwise I will most likely suspend my activities at Wikimedia Commons. — Richie 19:59, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Grüße, abf /talk to me/ 05:21, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Vielen Dank! Schöne Grüße. — Richie 21:13, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Moved Page

You moved the Top 200 Non-Icons which have a Vector version available by usage page I created to User:Inkwina/Top 200 Non-Icons which have a Vector version available by usage claiming wrong namespace. Could you please explain why this is so?

I think that the page is of general usefulness to the Community as it points out images that would most likely benefit from being replaced by their SVG counterparts. I therefore do not think that the User: namespace is really the place for it. I would appreciate it if you guided me to relevant policy/guideline pages about where to place such pages so I do not make such mistakes again. Should it perhaps be under the Commons: namespace? (I will keep it in the User: namespace while debugging)

BTW I just saw your message. I did not realize what happened, I thought it was some bug in my script so I just re-ran it. --Inkwina (talk contribs) 13:17, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you can also use the commons-namespace, no objections, but is not what we host as a gallery. Regards, abf /talk to me/ 13:19, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Out of scope?

Hi, I'd created a page this morning to organize the photos in Commons for Warren County, Indiana. I first made the framework of the page (categorization, gallery tags, etc.), then went to compose a list of the images to insert into it. Before I could add them, though, I found that the page had already been deleted as being out of scope. Given that there are a number of photos in Commons relating to Warren County, I'm not sure why a page to present them would be considered as being outside of scope. Thanks, Huwmanbeing 14:12, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Gallery pages must include Images, otherwise they'll get deleted. Feel free to create it again with Images. abf /talk to me/ 16:00, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Deletion/move request closure

Hello, I have noticed that you are efficient at deletion request closures. Can I request to have a look at the various requests (and often contradictionary) move requests in the area of categories farm by country and farmhouses by country (and subcats per country) which date back now from more than three months ago (plus some cats for discussion as the initiator tried to spread the discussion on a maximal number of related categories). I removed already a deletion request there as it was referring to a so-called duplicate category that had a move request to the category that was requested for deletion. All this is vey confusing for people that want to improve categorisation and it is a clear signal that people shouldn't bother too much with deletion and move requests. Sorry for the trouble and thank you anyway. --Foroa 07:43, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Ask restoration of User:Yug/Dream team

Hello,
Yes I now contribute under IP. But if I create constructive pages in my old user name subspace, the page should stay, regardless it was done by an IP or by a registred account. If you think it's a spam, just notice the sub-page to the concerned account (Yug) on user talk:Yug.

I know that admins do their best and necessary do some mistakes for unclear cases, Sorry for the time lost, but please restore the page (which I have to expand). 220.135.4.212 = Y_g = ex-admin. 05:07, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

  • I want you to reverse deletion at once. You're not only crossing all Wiki guidelines but sabotage my work. --SirGazsi 20:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
  • You didn't tip me off that I've created an article instead of a sub-userpage. Now I understand the lethal speed of deletion. --SirGazsi 21:40, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Quick draw McGraw

I'm not quite sure whether you've got a bot or its you yourself deleting pages for being outside the project scope, but in future it might pay to check this history before you delete a page. I was pretty flummoxed to see that you deleted Kirsten Haglund less than a minute after I created it, because the image I noted contained the wrong file extension (should be png). Care to undelete it please? Thanks. PageantUpdater 09:24, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Sun_hidden_in_clouds.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Sehr geehrter AFB,

OK, I going to send it during the next week --Ranma sb15 16:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay. I'll restore them when the permission is there. abf /talk to me/ 16:17, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Könntest...

Deadmin

Hi!

I am User:Nichalp, recently de-adminned due to inactivity. I regret that I have not been a part of this community for a very long time as I have been very busy in real life. I also don't forsee myself getting any active in the near future. Could you let me know my chances of regaining adminship if I ever apply again? Thanks! --59.183.18.60 12:45, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

You have got the same chances as all the others. Go for it! (if you got active again). Regards, abf /talk to me/ 14:15, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

ABF: Could you please explain why you deleted the image that I created from the Zachman Framework article? What information is missing about it? I thought I provided all necessary information. Phogg2 13:04, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Notar helicopter pic

The pic currently used, from the commons, is unclear as it is missing some colours. I tried to upload a pic with some colours added but the new version refused to appear, probably as I was not the initial uploader. So what should I do? Upload a new version under a new name, and ask someone to delete the old pic? It seems impossible to update the existing pic. JMK 12:11, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

For the template. However as far as blocks are concerned (given a lack of welcome/scope/information posted by anyone on their talk page) the block is adequate - I am well aware that you block far more severely than I do --Herby talk thyme 08:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

No problem for the template. Bur erm... are my blocks to hard? Regrads, abf /talk to me/ 08:24, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
We all do things (& see things) in our own ways I guess. However I would appreciate an explanation of your increased block of this user. Equally which project CU did you contact about it? Personally I would prefer not to see the talk page protected - I do not see that placing unblock messages is that troublesome. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 10:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
I belive 3 times the same shit is enough. Its a ip wich is addicted to ONE user. Unblocking would be a free-mail for continued trolling. But if you want feel free to unprotect the talk-page :) Regards, abf /talk to me/ 10:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
My point was that you increased the block. Above on that talk page I thought I was clear that project CUs should be consulted before any alteration to the block? Much CU information comes from the private mailing list --Herby talk thyme 10:46, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Oups, sorry, i have not seen that and i corrected the block back to Bryan's. Regards and thanks for ponting that out, abf /talk to me/ 10:49, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

JPG-Strukturformel

Hallo ABF.

Grüße, abf /talk to me/ 18:12, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Vielleicht magst du ja deine Meinung dort kundtun. --Leyo 10:10, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Grüße, abf /talk to me/ 17:40, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Grüße, abf /talk to me/ 18:11, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Grüße, abf /talk to me/ 06:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:Knoxville sign2.jpg

Hello ABF. About March 15th I noticed that the infobox image at en:Knoxville,_Iowa was not very legible, so I went to work making an easier to see version of that image. The original was [Image:Knoxville sign.jpg] on enWikipedia and the one I made, which I attempted to add as a version of that image, was [Image:Knoxville sign2.jpg]. I see now, one week later, that the robot User:CommonsDelinker has removed that image 'because "Was in w:commons:Category:Unknown as of 15 March 2008; still missing essential information".' The robot appears to have been operating under your control.

This seems to me to be a very unusual situation. Basically, an image I made, or at least modified, was deleted within about one week for missing essential information. I don't doubt that I made some mistake, but I do not even know what this essential missing information was, and was never given any warning or opportunity to remedy the situation. In fact, the image, which was significantly more useful than the old version (which is now back in place) is gone. To get it back I will either need to make an undeletion request or redo the work, either of which takes time and effort away from more useful efforts at Wikipedia.

I would be grateful for an explanation. Tim Ross 21:13, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

There where two problems. Either the source 'Own work (mod. from original Commons file)' and the license (no tag). I belive it would helpfully for you to browse over COM:L. Regards, abf /talk to me/ 06:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC) P.S.:I Can't control the bot, it runs automatically under the control of Bryan. abf /talk to me/ 06:40, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Hello. ABF is right that the source file is missing. When an images is uploaded from an existing image from Commons, it should be explicitly stated which image. Saying "an image from Commons" is not sufficient. That said, deletion because the copyright tag was missing is not exactly a good argument, as it was indicated in the text that the image was GFDL.
I also think ABF should be a little more careful when deleting the image. When the image is called Image:Knoxville sign2.jpg, it is obvious that the source image is located at Image:Knoxville sign.jpg. It is only a little effort to fix the description rather than deletion.
Lastly, the image was not deleted by a bot, but by ABF himself. It is common practice that images missing information are deleted 7 days after the uploader has been notified. -- Bryan (talk to me) 17:42, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, but I do not know where I should have got the information from the Source was located there. I am sorry anyway, and I will be more careful with such stuf. Thanks, Bryan for solving it. abf /talk to me/ 19:07, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I appreciated the help on this issue. All is well now. Thanks. Tim Ross 18:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Given that an appropriate message has now been placed which will be understood by the user can I ask you to review your block and see if the behaviour is corrected --Herby talk thyme 11:05, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, okay, if you want to do so, you can remove it :) abf /talk to me/ 11:10, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
It would have to be quite exceptional circumstances for me to remove the block of another admin. It was your decision to block, it is up to you to do as you see best, not me --Herby talk thyme 11:30, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Dont be scared of undoing my actions. But ✓ unblocked abf /talk to me/ 14:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks - I do not worry about changing another admin's actions but I will only do that if there is a need. I think it likely that someone will still need to block that user in due course but at least now we can be certain that they know what they are supposed to be doing.

Can I again ask you to use the welcome template when you place a "first" message on a user page. The fact that you did not get one does seems not seem a good reason to not allow others the possibility of getting a welcome a language they understand. --Herby talk thyme 14:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Dear Friend, the Signs we wear as members of this fraternity are over 140 years old. The people who created them are dead for more than 80 years. Every member gets the "Band" when entering the fraternity. So, in this case, I scanned my own "Band" and took reference to a publication which mentioned the colours. I hope you will be convinced now, that there is no violation of copyright. --Haederle 13:54, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Dear Friend, the Signs we use as members of this fraternity are over 140 years old. The people who created them are dead for more than 80 years. For PD-Old you'll have to name the author and his date of death. abf /talk to me/ 14:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean with: "For PD-Old", The author of all the publications is Hans Herpich, he died on the 5th of May 1974. But, he is only the author of some publications which name the colours and signs of the fraternity. As I told you before, they are much older without a publicly quotable reference. A private question: why are there so much negative feelings - expressed by deletion requests - against Wikipedia-publications from fraternities? I don't understand this at all... --Haederle 20:14, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you ABF, go ahead like this and you will constantly and publicly communicate how people like you are dealing with the common Wikipedia User: unnecessary deletion requests, a lot of trouble and no answer to detailed questions... --Haederle 10:01, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

I noticed that the following image, a graph, that I created and have published already at linked location was deleted (Removing "Cum_ba.jpg", it has been deleted from Commons by ABF because: Deleted because "Was in w:commons:Category:Unknown as of 17 March 2008; still missing essential information") I am not sure what information was missing, I submitted it with all necessary information I thought. Obviously not, so what step did I miss? I find this frustrating having submitted a number of images in the past that have survived fine and following the same steps does not seem to do the trick. Thanks for your time and effort.71.88.102.203 18:53, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
