Hello, Adrar!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hello[edit]

Hello, Adrar, concerning your remark to me personnally about "not justifie": that's out of the scope of the discussuion and therefore I answer you here. Maybe it made the impression of "justifying" to you. But sorry, I am not an administrator, I do not judge that user, I do not contribute to an edit war. Let us wait for the end of the discussion. Kind greetings. --Havang(nl) (talk) 18:50, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello again, I answered at my talk page. Kind greeting--Havang(nl) (talk) 17:25, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Making category descriptions[edit]

Hello Adrar, have a look at the collapsed multi-langauge descrition at Category:Northern Basque Country. Such descriptions are being made by internationalisation, but have to be prepared. You could do a great job by making one-line descriptions in basque and in english for the cats in the category tree Category:Basque Country. Best is to resume the introduction textes from english and basque wikipedia; if you wish, you can add a third description in french, but en and eu will do. E.g. for Labourd this could be:

 • introduction from en:Labourd shortened ==> Labourd or Lapurdi, in the french Pyrénées Atlantiques département (64), is a former province of France and one of the seven provinces of the Basque Country.
 • shortened introduction (my guess, don't smile, just correct it) from eu:Lapurdi ==> Lapurdi Euskal Herriko zazpi lurraldeetako bat da. Administratiboki Frantziako Akitania eskualdeko Pirinio Atlantikoak departamenduko (64).

Make a few to begin with and let me have a look at them. --Havang(nl) (talk) 22:05, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

It looks perfect. You are going fast. I created also the category tree Category:Geography of the Northern Basque Country, see also catscan http://toolserver.org/~daniel/WikiSense/CategoryIntersect.php?wikifam=commons.wikimedia.org&basecat=Geography_of_the_Northern_Basque_Country&basedeep=3&mode=iul&go=Scan&format=html&userlang=nl. Greetings. --Havang(nl) (talk) 17:36, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Interwiki's Soule[edit]

Hello again, you soon come to Soule. That's the first Northern Basque province I looked over, and for Soule cities I did not yet add all interwiki links. Maybe you can add the interwiki's when treating those cat's. Thanks. --Havang(nl) (talk) 19:18, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Well done. Greetings--Havang(nl) (talk) 17:46, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

slash / to be avoided in titles[edit]

Hello, Adrar, I saw you making titles like Category:Ernest Fourneau in Ascain / Azkaine. I inform you that the use of / in titles is greatly disencouraged, because it stands for subpages, (in general computer use for documentpaths), and also because bots may overlook such pages. Try to use in the future alternatives like ..in Ascain - Azkaine or ..in Ascain (Azkaine). No need to change what already has been named. Greetings. --Havang(nl) (talk) 22:54, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Please don't blank pages[edit]

Hi Adrar,
Thank you for your contributions to Commons. I noticed you blanked Cordobilla (Navarre) on Commons. I asume you meant for the page to be deleted, but blanking the page is not the right way to do this. I'd like to strongly recommend to use type reason here and add it on top of the page you would like to have deleted; This way it will be placed on a special list that administrators check regulary for deletion. Without this it might take a long time before it's noticed. Thanks again. 20:43, 24 May 2010 (UTC)–Krinkletalk

Aupa Krinkle, thanks for the advice. I'm not an expert; I created the page and I didn't want to delete it but to redirect this reference to "Category:Cordobilla (Galar)". Now I have done a category redirect so I hope it will be OK if now I write in this empty page the name of the category which would be redirected. My will is that people can find the different forms of the name of this village. Same for "Cordovilla". Thanks, eskerrik asko.--Adrar (talk) 21:50, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello Adrar, I answered at my talk page. But a question: is this picture correctly located: File:Eglise-Larcevau.jpg. Greetings, --Havang(nl) (talk) 11:46, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
