If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. It seems you probably could. That username was registered 22:05, 13 May 2006 (UTC), but never actually used (that I could find) - it has no edits. Please see COM:CHU#Requests to usurp an existing account with no edits. — Jeff G. (talk|contribs) 18:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Dag André,

Volgens de afbeeldingspagina heb jij de afbeelding Image:Koef noen-Paul Groot.jpg, afkomstig van flickr geverifieerd. Als ik daar kijk, blijkt echter dat de afbeelding daar onder Creative Commons naamsvermelding non commercial te staan. Dat laatste maakt de afbeelding volgens mij niet geschikt voor de WMF projecten, alleen CC/gelijkdelen of CC/Naamsvermelding/gelijkdelen zijn volgens mij compatible met de commons afbeeldingenpolicy. Zou je nog eens kunnen kijken? Alvast bedankt en groeten, Tjipke de Vries 07:33, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Ik ben er behoorlijk zeker van dat toen ik hem geüpload heb, hij onder CC-BY stond. Als dat niet het geval was geweest, had ik hem bijvoorbeeld niet met Flickr upload bot kunnen uploaden. - Andre Engels 11:33, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Hoe het stond toen je het uploadde weet ik werkelijk niet, want daar was ik niet bij en ik kan het niet controleren. Ik geloof je graag. Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Hello Andre Engels!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Commons images are used by editors on many projects in many languages. Each image is put into categories. This helps other editors find them. Please add categories to each image you upload.

To add an image to a category, add the following code to the end of the page.

[[Category:Category Name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbit of comets, add the following to the image description page:

[[Category:Astronomy diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories: Astronomy diagrams, Comets.

For further information on categories read Commons:Categories.

The CommonSense Tool often helps you find the best category for your image.
