Thanks for uploading Image:Carl_Gustaf_Mannerheim.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

  • Please do not upload contemporary versionf of coat of arms, because they are fully copyrighted. Only faithful scans of original documents/iamges (old ones) fall under PD-old. Masur (talk) 17:33, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
    • Like I said, deleted files aren't scanned originals. Therefore they aren't faithful reproduction of PD work, therefore not PD themselves. At least not: File:Eleseev 5-115.png and File:Zheleznov 1-119.png. File:Węsierski 2-55.png I restored but please indicate proper source (to exact webpage not to whole archive). Masur (talk) 18:06, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
      • First of all, weigh your words, would you? Second of all - do you read what I write? Like I said, PD-old is applicable only for OLD works or scans of such. Contemporary made/drawn files are PD only when they are faithful reproductions of such. I restored above files only to start deletion requests for them. Masur (talk) 18:24, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Baltisches Wappenbuch[edit]

Hi. Why are you adding CoA like this to this category? This category is category for concrete book named "Baltisches Wappenbuch". Skim (talk) 17:12, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Really? I don't think so. --Arachn0 (talk) 20:09, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
As i see in Category:Baltisches Wappenbuch "Baltisches Wappenbuch printed 1882 in Stockholm. Written by: Klingspor, Carl Arvid, 1829 – 1903. Illustrated by: Hildebrandt, Adolf Matthias, 1844 – 1918" and in this and this and this. Skim (talk) 12:12, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
I don't think that this category must content ONLY pictures loaded from Baltisches Wappenbuch but other adequate pictures may exist --Arachn0 (talk) 18:53, 10 July 2011 (UTC)
Can you propose CONCEPT of this category in this situation? We can create another category for this CONCEPT. In future i remove all images, which aren't from "Baltisches Wappenbuch" armorial. Skim (talk) 10:06, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
CONCEPT is wery simple: ALL images of coats of arms listed in "Baltisches Wappenbuch" armorial. I think it's not necessary to divide images imported immediately from Baltisches Wappenbuch and others: looking through alphabetical order, You may choose image looking better for the article illustration--Arachn0 (talk) 10:34, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Skim. There should be only pictures from the book.--WooteleF (talk) 16:03, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I'll try to describe my approach. those pictures that you names "from the book" are scanned and digitalized. For me it's not so great difference - treatment by the scanning pictures or the SVG-program --Arachn0 (talk) 11:06, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Heraldry[edit]

Dear User Arachn0,

I am user Stefsom from greek wikipedia and I would like to ask you how can I make coats of arms of heraldry of different countries and provinces. If you could help me, I'd appreciate it a lot! You can answer me at my greek user page. It's here.

I can find coats-of-arms images with Public Domain in Internet only --Arachn0 (talk) 13:07, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Rakowski and Раковские[edit]

Hello, I'm Avalokitesvara, and I work on heraldic articles on Polish Wiki. It seems that You have on Russian Wiki some additional info about this Polish-Russian noble family. It's quite interesting, because Polish sources mention this family only in Wielkopolska (Greater Poland). I would like to incorporate info from Russian sources into Polish article. However I cannot locate the specific source of this info, Gajl and the webpage in "Literature" section doesn't contain it. Also it seems that Your knowledge of Russian sources can be beneficial for Polish Wiki as well. Would You mind if I ask some questions about several other Polish-Russian-Ukrainian-Byelorussian noble families? Best regards. Avalokitesvara (talk) 16:25, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

It was so hard to remember but I did. Information about Podolian family Rakowski is from the book of ru:Бобринский, Александр Алексеевич, who cited "Obschij Gervownik", vv. I-XIV (including vv. XI-XIV those not published). This information corresponding with http://rodovoyegnezdo.narod.ru/Kiev/Rakovskie.html. Re: Kantakuzen[edit]

Hello. I was the one who asked Bastian to make this Coat of Arms, so I fell obligated to respond to Your message. I am aware that adding princely manling as an indicator of princely title would be reasonable. However our Polish sources, that I was able to reach, reconstruct this coat of arms either without any external addings (Niesiecki) or only with helmet and princely crown (Ostrowski). Therefore I have no reason to believe that this coat of arms was depicted in Poland with the mantling. Perhaps You would be able to provide some other sources, maybe Russian? Best regards Avalokitesvara (talk) 13:54, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

RU COA Manuci[edit]

Hello. I stumbled upon this Coat of Arms, and noticed that the image is slightly different from the source (Gerbovnik). It seems to me that these figures in fields I and IV are roses with four petals rather than crosses, but I might be mistaken. All good in the New Year! Avalokitesvara (talk) 11:09, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Official blazon (Gerbovnik) quite literallly crosses without additional qualities --Arachn0 (talk) 07:16, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
  • Also, I have question about Coat of Arms Lesieniewski. On some webpage (heraldry.com.ua) it is given with colors, but my question is - is it reliable? I generally do not trust webpages that cite no books, and the only book that I was able to find that publishes this CoA (Malorossijsky Gerbovnik), publishes it without colors. Isn't this red field only a guess of this webpage's author? Avalokitesvara (talk) 11:13, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I need some help deciphering blazon of coat of arms of Bibikov family. Could you tell me what is this bird in Bibikov arms? Is it random bird, or is it named by species? Regards. Avalokitesvara (talk) 08:33, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

In ofiicial blazon it names "Турухтан" (TU-RU-KHTAN), it is pl: Batalion (ptak), I think --Arachno T 08:40, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

--Ghirlandajo (talk) 11:47, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

--Arachno T 05:20, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
Громадное поле с подписями никакой не "первоисточник", а лишний в энциклопедии балласт. Первоисточник - собственно портрет; только он и востребован для иллюстрирования. Посмотрите для образца мои загрузки. --Ghirlandajo (talk) 06:00, 10 January 2014 (UTC)
