Hello, Aresceo!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

NASA images[edit]

Hello,

Thank you for the warning and I am sorry about this! I am fixing everything that I have uploaded. I have never used Wikipedia commons before so I didn't know how to cite correctly. I am changing them all to what you had on Kabul. I work at the JSC in Houston and was told to upload the photos from the Crew Earth Obs. website onto Wikipedia. If you give me a little time I will have them all fixed in a jiffy!

Thank you and again sorry about the misunderstanding! Aresceo (talk) 19:01, 20 December 2011 (UTC)Aresceo[reply]

Hello!

Please cite images from NASA correctly. Please do not provide them as "own work" because they are not. Please choose for the licence PD-NASA. Thanks in advance. Regards, High Contrast (talk) 19:11, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please cite sources correctly! Take this file by you for an example that was fixed by me. Thank you in advance. --15

Let's talk about this issue on your talk page - where it all started ;-)
I appreciate your efforts and your work here. These satellite images are definately a great contribution for Wikimedia. Basically, your files are ok but there are several problems like the own-work-claim and the correct license. I have created a general template that you can use for all NASA satellite images of you (the optimal result can be seen here). Just copy and paste it in the image you want to improve by clicking on "edit" above.
Here is the copy&paste-template:
====

====

Secondly, you should upload each satellite image in the highest resolution available. If you want to do this, just click on "Upload a new version of this file" on the bottom of the file page and upload the new version. The file will be overwritten by the new file.
I hope I did not forget something. If any questions are left, please leave a note on my talk page.
Greetings and happy editing, High Contrast (talk) 21:03, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
