Autopatrol given[edit]

Commons Autopatrolled.svg

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically sighted. This will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to help users watching Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones. Thank you. In the latest upload her dress color changes from blue to lilac... AnonMoos (talk) 07:10, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Without access to the original, it's near impossible to tell which version is more correct. I do think the lilac one is, however. Just look at the sidewalk: It looks more natural than in the "blue" reproductions.—Austriacus (talk) 19:12, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
OK. I don't know which one is correct either, it just seemed a significant change... AnonMoos (talk) 19:46, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Source[edit]

Hello,

Could you please provide a source for File:Eugene de Blaas On the Beach.jpg? Thanks!

(Note that I splitted the upload to keep the older file at File:Eugene de Blaas On the Beach - Art Renewal Center.jpg)

Cheers, Jean-Fred (talk) 12:57, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

What's the point of that? The old file remains accessible in the history anyway. We've got far too many parallel reproductions of paintings already.—Austriacus (talk) 13:40, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Vittore Carpaccio - The Virgin Reading.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. (You can get a list of all your uploaded files using the Gallery tool.) Thank you.

Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 14:10, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

I do not quite understand the problem. The license is "PD-Art|PD-old-auto-1923|deathyear=1525". It is a faithful photographic reproduction of a two-dimensional, public domain work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain because the painter died in 1525. The reproduction is probably a hi-res scan from a book (I don't know), I found it on flickr, the link is in the template under "source". That's all I can say.—Austriacus (talk) 00:03, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Copyright Status of the Return of the Prodigal Son by Pompeo Batoni[edit]

Dear Austriacus

please can you clarify the copyright status of this image? are you the owner?

Many thanks

The Return of the Prodigal Son by Pompeo Batoni- are you the photographer?[edit]

Dear Austriacus

please let me know if you are the photographer of the image and if so, if I can use this image?

Your swift response is highly appreciated

Many thanks

I suppose you are referring to this image? No, I'm not the photographer, it's from Gallerix. The painting itself is in the public domain due to age. Whether or not you can use it depends on how copyright law in the area you live in treats photographs of PD art, see Reuse of PD-Art photographs for an introduction.—Austriacus (talk) 16:10, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks Austriacus for your reply. Unfortunately I live in a country where copyright applies to photographs. However, if the photographer gives me permission then that will be ok. I am trying to contact the previous entry Gryffnor in the hope that I can use that one.

Do you know how to contact the photographer at Gallerix? Their site is all in Russian. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Under en.gallerix.ru, the site is partly translated, but I could find no copyright notice, and no contact info either. You could try contacting the Kunsthistorisches Museum (info@khm.at), maybe they can help you.—Austriacus (talk) 03:44, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you Austriacus

Picture of the Year 2013 R2 Announcement[edit]

Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open![edit]

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category have continued to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue.
Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Reggianini[edit]

Grüß Gott! I notice that you list Reggianini on your user page and that you uploaded some images of his paintings from the Bonhams site last year. I am wondering, did you use dezoomify on these and if so, what is the base url for the images? I found a few more Reggianini paintings at Bonhams and I can't get it to work with Bonhams. Or is there another way to access the original image? Thanks for any help! Laura1822 (talk) 19:11, 7 August 2014 (UTC) p.s. I spent a semester in Wien as an undergraduate but my German is pretty poor after all these years, so I am writing in English. What a beautiful city!
