First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], which produces: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

pour le suivi de certains utilisateurs comme Stephi123. Je remarque de plus en plus que certains contributeurs ont de grandes difficultés à comprendre comment fonctionne wikipédia et Cie. Le nombre de contributions sans intérêt aucun est effarent !

Il ne me semble pas qu'il y a de "plus de en plus" de contributeurs perdus, mais plutôt toujours autant... Le site reste (et le restera probablement malgré tous les efforts du monde) compliqué pour certains...

Frage zu Sacré-Cœur[edit]

Hallo, Habe eine Frage zu Wikimedia Commons. Warum kann mein Bild nicht unter "Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre" verlinkt werden? Ich finde, es hat eine bessere Qualität als die meisten anderen Bilder dort. Warum ist "Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre" nicht mit "Category:South facade of the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre" verlinkt? Wie kann man darauf zugreifen?

   Hallo. Ich verstehe, warum du es komisch findest, dass ich dein Bild nicht auf die Seite "Basilique du Sacré Coeur de Montartre" gelassen habe. Wenn alle so wie du machen würden, dann hätten wir eine Seite mit hunderte Foto und auch keine Logik dazwischen. Dass Ziel von Wikipedia ist nicht seine eigene Werke zu zeigen. Wenn du die ganze Seite mit neuen Titel und interessante Bilder geändert hättest, hättest du eine richtige Arbeit gemacht.

Hallo, Finde diese Verlinkung der Seiten etwas durcheinander. Warum gibt es "Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre" und "Category:Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre" Ist dies immer so? Allgemeine Frage: Sollte man nicht wenn neue Fotos hochgeladen werden schauen ob diese besser sind als die alten und diese entsprechend einsortieren? Ich habe noch sehr viele andere Fotos mit dem Motiv, die ich auch nicht alle hochladen werde. Habe dieses hochgeladen nachdem ich es mit den vorhandenen verglichen habe und gesehen habe, dass meist die Auflösung geringer oder die Qualität schlechter war. Ich wollte aber auch nicht direkt die komplette Seite verändern da ich noch nicht so genau weiß wie das bei Wikipedia funktioniert und was man alles beachten muss. Vielleicht werde ich einmal versuchen die ganze Seite zu überarbeiten... (Wie füge ich meine Signatur hier ein?) - Johannes

Catégories, catégorisation[edit]

Merci de votre intervention à propos de ma sur-catégorisation. J'avais bien lu le "mode d'emploi" dont vous parlez, mais trop rapidement, et je l'avais mal compris, je pensais qu'il fallait de soi-même reoonstituer toute une arborescence. Je trouvais d'ailleurs ça bien compliqué ! Je vais me replonger dans le sujet, et explorer aussi le fonctionnement de CommonsSense !

Bon. Le "ça m'évitera d'avoir à passer derrière vous..." n'était peut-être pas une phrase très aimable, si ? Après tout, personne ne vous oblige...

Je suis désolé de vous avoir fait perdre du temps, mais celà dit, j'approuve entièrement votre "remise en ordre" de mes modestes contributions.

Nous avons tous commencé, et nous nous sommes tous trompés, particulièrement sur ce sujet des catégories, et vous compris, si j'en crois cette page !! Quant à moi, j'ai eu beaucoup de peine avec les licences au début, je ne comprenais pas bien, et j'ai d'ailleurs une photo qui se balade sans, je n'arrive pas à rectifier le tir.

J'aime beaucoup votre galerie, moi qui suis plutôt "Rive gauche". Je vais aussi essayer de mieux me caractériser, notamment grâce à Babel dont je n'ai pas encore bien compris le fonctionnement. Ich spreche (und schreibe) nicht sehr gut, aber ich verstehe (und lese) die schöne deutsche Sprache ...

Pompage illicite et intensif de photos[edit]

Ce site http://www.infotourisme.net/tourisme/albas_aude a récupéré ta photo sans indiquer les mentions nécessaires : type de licence + ton nom. Je viens d'ajouter sur leur page ce qui est nécessaire ... mais l'affichage n'est pas automatique, et les responsables refusaient jusqu'à il y a 3 jours de citer WP, Commons et les auteurs ! Gonflé, hein ! Bonjour, Je réponds à votre remarque concernant le manque de précisions sur plusieurs de mes photos. Je me rends bien compte que ça rend la catégorisation difficile. Moi en premier. Le problème est que je n'ai pas beaucoup de mémoire. Je me souviens à peu près dans quel quartier j'étais mais le nom des rues m'échappe totalement. Je sais que je devrais me mettre à tout noter sur un calepin quand je sors avec mon appareil photo. C'est une chose que je vais faire dorénavant. Merci pour le compliment sur la qualité.
