ლუდის ზიანი[edit]

Goga123321 (talk) 11:11, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ლუდი[edit]

1

Goga123321 (talk) 11:15, 16 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category names[edit]

Hello!

I noticed you have created some categories about steel industry. I have renamed some.

I want to share whith you some points about the vocabulary. I have many problems when creating a category in Commons because English language is really fuzzy ; at the opposite, French is very accurate.

There is a general confusion in English about what are ironworks, steelworks and steel mill. When creating Commons categories, you named the Dunkirk steel industry as a steel mill, although pictures show blast furnaces. You named the Florange industry as an ironworks, although the one picture shows the aciérie, which means a steel mill.

I started a discussion in the English wiki to point out this problem. I proposed tho be more restrictive to be accurate :

  • still mill (or steel shop) → french: fr:Aciérie → is the shop which produces blooms, billets or slabs. It is composed with converters, ladle metallurgy and continuous castig machines
  • steelworks (or siderurgy) → french: Usine sidérurgique → is the complete industry (coke ovens, su=inter plant, BF, converters, casting mahines, rolling mills, coating lines, etc.)
  • ironworks → french: forges → is the old way to produce iron and steel, before the invention of the Bessemer converter. It deals with puddling of fining processes.

I hope you share this, or you have any comment if I do some mistakes.

Iron ore sinter for blast furnace[edit]

Hello,

could you add some translations to Category:Iron ore sinter ?

Borvan53 (talk) 14:14, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Borvan53 Which kind of translation? If you mean "Aggloméré" then I have done. Ukrainian name of the "Aggloméré" by the way is the same - "агломерат" which is pronounced as [aglomerat]. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 14:12, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please enjoy ! Borvan53 (talk) 21:56, 10 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Borvan53: Yeah, thank you very much. But if you mean exoticism and unexpectedness of an electric blast furnace, then excuse me, dear Borvan, but I'm not surprised at this. I have already seen this kind of furnaces. For me it's not a surprise already. But, nevertheless, I really enjoy the proposed illustrations, in particular because so far I have seen only the drawings of this kind of furnaces but I see the photo of this kind of furnaces for the first time. By the way, maybe you already know, but I will note that there were several types of electric blast furnaces and as I understand not only in Sweden [1].
By the way, I would like to offer you something exotic too - a blast furnace with a hearth on wheels File:Відсувне горно доменної печі — Detachable blast furnace hearth.jpg. Have you ever seen anything like this? I do not know how it worked and I do not know if it was realized in practice because now I do not have the full text of the book from which this illustration was taken. But idea was to use detachable blast furnaces hearths as a method of combating against overheating of the hearth and against hearth or wall accretions. As noted in the book, the blowing off of the furnace was not needed in this case. The illustration was taking from russian book of 1903 but I am sure it is from the west. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 08:01, 16 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was wondering if I you knew that kind of blast furnace.
About the detachable hearth, I knew it was pretty common on cupolas : see File:Drop bottom cupola.jpg. In this case, the idea was to have a quick and easy way to empty the cupola, for a short (somme days or weeks) stoppage. But I had no idea of example of use with blast furnaces. Thanks !
File:Hollway converting furnace.png was an "evolved" idea, in which the hearth was designed to be used as a converter. Borvan53 (talk) 12:42, 19 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Borvan53: I noted above that I do not have the full text of the book from which this illustration was taken. Well, for now I’ve got the full text of the book, concerning the above-mentioned detachable blast furnace hearth. And I would like with your permission to finish the story of this type of hearths.
In the book it is saied that the design of these hearths was proposed by engineer Frölich and a small elliptical charcoal blast furnace, wich was smelting ferromanganese and had a retractable hearth situated on a cart, was worked at the Nizhny Tagil ironworks, Nizhny Tagil, the Urals, Russian imperia for many years. The whole hearth G (both lower and upper) until the bosh level, after taking off the nozzles S, can be lowered down by jacks D and can be set on the cart T. A new hearth, wich is placed on the enother cart of the same kind, was moving along the same rails r and pushed out the first cart, spoiled herth, without stopping the furnace run. Then a new hearth is placed to its place, the same jacks D raise the new hearth and press it to the bosh. The new hearth before the setting must be preheated and filled with charcoal, of course, in order to avoid the cooling of the furnace. Later, Luhrmann took advantage of the idea of Frölich and developed his own system of a retractable hearth, but this kind of hearths did not get spread, because they are not applicable to large furnaces wich are operating at high temperatures.
The above-mentioned engineer Frölich (russian spelling Фрёлих or Фрелих) is a Karl Frölich, foreign engineer who was born in Germany or more precisely — in Prussia. Later he moved to Muscovy. It should be noted that most of the engineers at the plants of the Russian Empire were foreign people. Karl Frölich was locally a famous man in the 19 centure in Ural.
The above-mentioned Luhrmann or Lührmann is, as I believe, more or less famous F. Luhrmann who invented a slag tuyere.
The above-mentioned elliptical blast furnace is a type of blast furnaces wich had an elliptical cross-section. It is said that this type of blast furnaces was invented by Rachette (uk:Рашет Володимир Карлович), who was an ingener and minister in russian mining department and, by the way, he was of french origin. But in Stahl und eisen, 18 mai 1910, page 818 it is said that Rachette designed blast furnaces just of oblong cross-section and rounded corners and Frölich was that one who exactly designed an elliptical cross-section blast furnace.
I am sorry for my English and for such a long and possibly useless text, but I just wanted to reveal the story of that detachable hearths. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 14:47, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hey ! Your English is pretty good, I think I underestimated you
Just about these detachable hearths : why did they were designed ? To allow a quick stopppage of the furnace, like in the cupola ?
And thank you for all these interesting links ! Borvan53 (talk) 19:26, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Borvan53: No, they were designed not for a quick stoppage of the furnace in meaning "arrêt de la marche du fourneau".
They were designed to avoid the blowing out blast furnace in case if there are problems with its hearth. Those problems are 1) the high overheating of the hearth, which leads to deterioration or defective condition and eventually to the destruction of the hearth and 2) hearth accretion caused by incorrect blast-furnace run. In both cases, it is necessary to blow out the blast furnace for the repair of hearth. So, the detachable or mobile hearths were invented with the aim of replacing the spoiled hearth with a new one without blowing out of the blast furnace. No, sorry, what you see is what you get. I've otherwise never seen it, as it's hard to view from the nearby bridge (I was a passenger in a tall vehicle; from my car, you couldn't see over the bridge railing), it's nowhere near any other roads, and I've never been on a boat nearby. Ostrava[edit]

Hello, several months ago you asked me for a better picture of blast furnaces in Vítkovice iron works, Ostrava. I haven't taken any new picture, but in my computer I found an old, but maybe good picture: https://screenshot.cz/HIYGD/ --Cmelak770 (talk) 07:19, 1 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Cmelak770: Hello. I was off line some time so couldn't answer at once. Yes, of couse, I remember my request. Along this time I fond in the Wikimedia Commons some photos of this place and added them to this category. All photos I found are good but only this one can be a competitor to your photo as for me becouse of its resolution. But this photo is blurred. Of couse, I think your photo must be in above mentioned category to. If you think as well then do uploud your photo to that category. If you some time will be able to make a photo of that place in much more resolution then it will be good. Thank you very much. Blast furnace chip worker (talk) 18:03, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
