File:Bobby in the far east.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi Taiva, thanks for pointing this out, can you please direct me to a link where i can read more in-depth about the freedom panorama, otherwise you can just go ahead and delete these pictures since I uploaded them as part of wiki loves monuments and thought they are educational

Kippie Moeketsi[edit]

Can you add some information on where these photos were taken? It will allow us to better categorize them. --NJR_ZA (talk) 11:46, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick, apparently I've had some other pictures of monuments and buildings that i took recently nominated for deletion and this according to Taivo is because South Africa does not have Freedom of Panorama, I'm not familiar with how this policy/law really works and I've asked him (even you can too) just direct me through a link where i can read more about this freedom of panorama so that next time i would comply..and well i don't think it helps for me to argue that you should or shouldn't delete those Kippie Moeketsi pictures because even if i can put more information of where I've taken them, Warfieldian (talk) will still go ahead and delete them (he’s also has nominated them for deletion). I took them from the newtown precint next to africa museum and posted them for the wiki loves monuments competition as you might have seen by the way

Please don't re-upload photos again after they have been removed. Warfieldian (talk)

is it about remaning this picture or the fact that its on the wrong category because i use it here http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/Board (as you may also see this with my colleagues too that it's not about our personal elevation but it's about wikimedia foundation work). please advice on how to upload a photo that will not violate copyright wikimedia's (commons) copyrights law but on the other hand be able to help make it easier for me to execute my chapter's work ( by this I mean we don't have a domain name and since we are using our own personal email in order to communicate with cooperates and stakeholders it makes it easy for them to see our pictures and what we do through this link http://wikimedia.org.za/wiki/Board , in the advent of 419 scams etc)
Actually, if the photo is actively used in a wikimedia project, that should be sufficient to keep the photo. I will withdraw the nomination for deletion. Warfieldian (talk)
hi Warfieldian (talk) , this time why did you delete the Bobby shabangu.JPG image? I thought you said you withdraw from deleting this image but will delete all the other pictures because they violate freedom of panorama, I even asked you advice on how to upload it in a ways that wouldn't violate the copyright wikimedia copyright laws , but you never explained this to me.Please return that image back !Bobbyshabangu (talk)

Bobby, unfortunately, South Africa does not allow photos of architecture or artwork to be used freely and thus cannot be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Please take that in to account with any future contributions. Thanks! Warfieldian (talk)

Warfieldian (talk) you can go ahead and delete these photos of architecture and artwork I've taken, but please do give me a link where i can have a read about freedom of panorama or where i can understand in-depth about uploading of pictures that are of architecture or artwork, I think this will very much help me to understand about violation of South African copyright laws

Freedom of panorama[edit]

You can read about South Africa's Freedom of panorama here. The Commons policy is based on the Copyright Act 1978, but personally I believe it is a load of bull. The spirit of the act is to provide freedom of panorama, but unfortunately the wording specifically excluded photos (though it does allow video). I'm hoping that someone with an interest in politics will take up this case, have a Bill drafted and submitted to parliament and have the Act changed to specifically include photos. --NJR_ZA (talk) 05:19, 4 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.

Dear Bobbyshabangu,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Monuments team

Study shows Wiki Love Africa recruitment makes a difference[edit]

Hello Bobbyshabangu

We are writing because you have participated in the Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) photo competition in the past. Results have been published and winning pictures may be seen here !

This year WLA partnered with the research organization CAT Lab (previously CivilServant) to help us evaluate the effectiveness of one of our recruitment efforts. You may or may not have received a message on your user talk page encouraging you to participate again in this year's competition.

We are excited to share with you their study found our recruitment message was a success and may have resulted in as many as 2,000 additional contributed photos. We hope you agree this is great news for Africa and its representation across Wikimedia. You can read more about the study and the results in this blog post.

If you have any questions about the study, we encourage you to ask CAT Lab's research manager Juliakamin(cs).

File:The JHF and I.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Category discussion warning

Fire in Johannesburg has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
