Example for image not showing: Image:DebaBocho.Cleaver.Japan.jpg. Has working Download high resolution version (300x497, 9 KB) link, but no image on the image page. -- Chris 73 03:37, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Also Image:Heckert GNU white.png shows on the GFDL tags (see Image:DebaBocho.Cleaver.Japan.jpg), but not on Image:Heckert GNU white.png -- Chris 73 03:40, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Both look ok to me... --Brion VIBBER
Hmmm... I am using Firefox V1. Looks OK on Internet explorer for me, but not on firefox. Toggling the Addblock extension does not help. BTW, is there a way to turn the category thumbnails off for selected pages, as for example the Category:Public domain, which has tons of images? I like the thumb-feature quite a lot, but it is difficult for very large categories. -- Chris 73 04:45, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hold on ... now it works. Not sure why, but as long as it works I have no complaints -- Chris 73 04:50, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)
There isn't currently a way to turn off image gallerying in categories. What we probably will hack in, though, is a limit to the number of pages listed at once (and then the ability to page through that list). --Brion VIBBER 06:06, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Thanx

thx

Hello Brion, with this little flower I just want to say thank you for spending time and energy on improving the Commons (it´s only one of the many projects you´re working on, of course) and for the reliable and mostly very quick help :-) :Bdk: 01:37, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thankx too

Wikicommon wasn't work well with files name usying ǎěǐǒ or ǔ ; but ... now... when I try with File:Xǐao(small)-red.jpg => That's ok, that's work ǐ : look there On the french wikipédia and On the english one. I presume than that work well too for ǎ ě ǐ ǒ and ǔ . Thanks really much to the god who made that ! Yug 11:55, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

Still have some trouble on uploading page, in exemple, upload the file Xǐao(small)-red.jpg is not possible. If it's easy to fix it, please help this. Otherwise we have to upload a file rename like this : X&*456;ao(small)-red.jpg Yug 13:17, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Chinese characters in file names

Hi brion - thanks for finding the major cache-key bug the other day. I have now received a detailed report of more problems with chinese characters (I havn't tried to reproduce them yet, though). Have a look here: User talk:Duesentrieb#Files with special characters to upload : Chineses - thanks! -- Duesentrieb 16:43, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

Hm, I've tried this, it works fine for me: Image:Test-永.png. May be a problem with your browser and/or file system. -- Duesentrieb 17:02, 13 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion notification

One thing that may be worth thinking about is a method of notifying uploaders automatically that an image has been deleted, perhaps even by e-mail when available. One reason for this is that many users don't speak English, and here we could show them the warning in whatever language they have set in their prefs.--Eloquence 05:38, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Admin news

Hello,

If you consent for statistics to be published about your actions as an administrator, please sign here: Commons:Administrator permission for statistics. (I expect that most people will not have a problem with it unless you are especially concerned with privacy.)

Also, please be aware that we now have a Commons:Administrators' noticeboard. Please put it on your watchlist, if you haven't already!

I have reuploaded this image; it may be used on other Wikiprojects and belongs to the Category:Wikipedia statistics (or rather Wikimedia statistics, but we don't have that category yet).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 18:32, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Administrative notice

Deutsch

Hi. This message is sent out to you because you are an administrator on Commons, and you made little use (or no use) of the admin tools lately: less than 5 times in the last five months.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a poll among users). According to that policy, admins who use their tools infrequently will be asked whether they still need their adminship, and if they do not respond or require them the removal of the tools will be requested.

If you feel you still need your admin tools, please sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days from the date this message was sent out. However, if you then don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will lose the adminship without any notice.

This is not a comment on the considerable help you have given to the project in the past but reflects the wish of the community to see active administrators and to ensure that possible security breaches are minimized.

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

This message was added automatically by Filbot, if you need some help about it, ask its master (Filnik) or go to the Commons:Help desk. --Filnik 18:10, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Dear Brion VIBBER. I am writing to you to inform you that because of inactivity, you may lose your adminship on Commons.

Commons has a new policy on admin activity, Commons:Administrators/De-adminship, taken into use on June 13, 2007 (after a two-week poll on the proposed policy's talk page).

If you want to keep your adminship, you have to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days. Note that if you don't make 5 admin actions in the following 5 months, you will then lose the adminship anyways.

Thank you — Mike.lifeguard 16:52, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

I am writing to let you know that as you did not sign the page mentioned above within the permitted 30 day period your admin rights have been removed for inactivity, as required by our policy. We very much appreciate the work you have done here, and hope you will feel free to re-apply for admin rights if at some time in the future you feel able to contribute again. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 14:11, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello Brion VIBBER!

Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Commons images are used by editors on many projects in many languages. Each image is put into categories. This helps other editors find them. Please add categories to each image you upload.

To add an image to a category, add the following code to the end of the page.

[[Category:Category Name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbit of comets, add the following to the image description page:

[[Category:Astronomy diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories: Astronomy diagrams, Comets.

For further information on categories read Commons:Categories.

The CommonSense Tool often helps you find the best category for your image.

Here is a gallery of your images. Please check that each image has a category. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the help desk. Thank you.

[edit] Looking for Contacts to Promote Dynamic Charts within Wikimedia

Hi Brion!

I saw you talk at the SVG conference. I am glad you are also a fan of SVG. I am working on a small set of "dynamic graphs" that might be used in wikimedia some day in the future. If you are interested here is a link: Dynamic Charts using SVGWeb Do you have any contacts I can work with to promote dynamic graphs within Wikimedia? --Dmccreary (talk) 16:18, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
