ComDel in daily DR pages with DRBot

Hi Bryan. In enhlish this time, for reference purposes. Magnus has written a tools to facilitate taking care of deletion requests. I'd like to ask you to write some DRbot magic to integrate this into the Deletion request pages.

Implementation: currently the deletion request day pages are created manually. Make a bot that created the pages either at the change of day or one day or more in advance. Add the following wiki code to the page:

== Month Daynumber ==

<div class="plainlinks">[http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/comdel.php?usedate=1&year1={{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}&year2={{subst:CURRENTYEAR}}&month1={{subst:CURRENTMONTH}}&month2={{subst:CURRENTMONTH}}&day1={{subst:CURRENTDAY2}}&day2={{subst:CURRENTDAY2}}&doit Process deletion requests with ComDel] (admin only)</div>

Obviously, the parameters should be appropriate for each day page. This could also be done with <noinclude>. Not sure which way would be preferred. Cheers! Siebrand 13:45, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Flickr upload bot

hello Bryan,

I've started using the tool you developed, which saves me a lot of time; I thank you for that. Unfortunately, I've recently become aware of a problem: sometimes the file imported with the tool is corrupted. It's clearly visible in the first version of this image: Zuco_103_20070712_New_Morning_05.jpg (the bottom is missing and the rest of the image is of poor quality). Sometimes it seems as if the transfer has worked, (for example, here: Zuco_103_20070712_New_Morning_11.jpg), but the file size doesn't match (in this case, 560 Ko instead of 1,23 Mo). I've combed through my previous imports and have found it's happened more than once. Okki 00:06, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker on fr.wikibooks

> Moved from User talk:Siebrand

Hi,

A sysop from fr.wikibooks said on the french-language Village Pump that the intervention from CommonsDelinker could be improve im some pages.

Here for exemple : instead of delete the line Image:Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III.jpg|[[/Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III|Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III]] {{75}} (20 août 2007), the bot should change it into Image:IMG.svg|[[/Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III|Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III]] {{75}} (20 août 2007). So on this page (and some others), CommonsDelinker should replace the name of a deleted image by Image:IMG.svg.

Is it possible to do it (with a template for exemple) ?

Thanks--Bapti () 13:20, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

This is possible with a plugin. Please contact Bryan for details. Something similar is currently being used on nl.wp to replace instead of delink for galleries. Cheers! Siebrand 13:35, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Siebrand ask me to contact you... So is it possible and how ? Thanks--Bapti 13:39, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Yes this is possible. I will write the plugin in the weekend, I currently don't have the time to do so. -- Bryan (talk to me) 14:22, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks a lot !--Bapti 14:27, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

On which pages should this plugin be active? All pages starting with Photographie/ ? -- Bryan (talk to me) 21:41, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

I think so but I have asked to Jean-Jacques MILAN.--Bapti 09:58, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
He said that the pluging should be octive with Photographie/ and Tribologie/. Thanks a lot for your work.--Bapti 12:05, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I'll be doing this tonight or tomorrow. -- Bryan (talk to me) 12:11, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
or next week ? :p --Bapti 20:17, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Bot

Hi Bryan. Is your bot that adds {{Kept}} to images running? I would like to know whether I should add them manually or not.....

Fred J 22:09, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello Bryan, this looks like a dead page/project. I suggest to delete this page and the talk, do you think so too? --GeorgHH 09:21, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

OTRS

In het Engels even gepaste van elders: How do you get stuff like the "permission" on Image:Johnny Contardo's press photo head shot.JPG or Image:Rheum nobile (photo Bill Baker).jpg into an official OTRS ticket? Or is it enough to leave it as it is now? I come across it every so often, and well-meaning people's email addresses are just waiting to be harvested... thanks. Deadstar (msg) 13:05, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Wat gebeurt er als de email niet wordt verstuurd - Is er een template met iets van "we wachten op OTRS permission"? Misschien heb ik niet goed gezocht? Deadstar (msg) 08:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Township maps in SVG instead of PNG

I saw your comment on the administrators' noticeboard about the township maps I've been producing. I did experiment with creating them in SVG format, but ultimately decided against it, partly because MapScript does not seem to support transparency in SVGs as it does in PNGs. With SVG, the road vectors came out too bold; the roads were included as location cues but weren't to distract from, or get confused with, the township borders. Ideally, I want to avoid manual processing of the files since there are so many of them, but perhaps there is some way of getting this done automatically. I'll check into it. The nice thing about the PNGs is that they're quite small (less than 10K in most cases). Omnedon 21:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

POTY translations

I've translated the voting software for the POTY to Spanish (see User:Boricuaeddie/POTY), and I wish to translate the other stuff, too. What do I do now? --Boricuæddie 21:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Great! --Boricuæddie 21:33, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
A couple of things: 1.) Please delete this; it's no longer useful. 2.) I propose we change the sitenotice to "Voting is now open for the 2007 Picture of the Year competition," or something similar. --Boricuæddie 00:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Update

Hi Bryan, last week I tried to get through your subpage at User:Bryan/Images to be checked. Is it possible to get an update of these subpages? I solved about 150 cases and there is still a lot to do. An update is therefore not really urgent, but is it possible in general? Thanks, --Svens Welt 13:13, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

b:User:BryanBot feature request

Is it possible to have per-edit edit summaries for this bot? It would be useful to have something like "+2 CSD; -1 Protected edit request +1 Requests for unblock" as opposed to a screenfull of "updating category index". – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 20:11, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Does the bot overwrite whatever's there each time it edits? ... that would explain why stuff doesn't stay up forever. hrmm... wish I could help figure something out, but I'm no programmer. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 22:26, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Is it possible to have the summary list what's actually in the edit (shortened, obviously), not what's changed?. Even if you had to do something like w:User:HBC AIV helperbot/Legend to list some abbreviations that get linked in the edit summary, just list how many things of each type are now on the page. That bot (and I know there's another one with similar edit summaries, but I can't remember which one) has (I think) the same/similar problem - it doesn't remember what was there the last time, so it just says things like "2 left". So BryanBot would say things like "Update: 2CSD, 1RFU" (but wouldn't say whether that's a change from previously, and wouldn't say if it's removing stuff). – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 18:32, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Bot for move back to en-WP?

Bryan, do we have a bot somewhere to move images back to the English Wikipedia? Might be useful for images that are PD-US, but not PD in their source country, such as those mentioned at Commons:Deletion requests/Category:Edmund Dulac. There are tags at en-WP for such cases, which state that the image should not be moved to the Commons. E.g. {{PD-US-1923-abroad}}. Lupo 22:12, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, that'd be great. All 23 files currently in Category:Edmund Dulac should go to en-WP, with the PD-US-1923-abroad tag instead of PD-US. (Well, if that replacement shouldn't be easily possible, I could do it by hand afterwards.) Lupo 22:25, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much. We somehow only had 23 files, some appear to have been deleted already in January 2007 (see Commons:Deletion requests/Image:Edmund Dulac - Snow Queen.jpg). I have now uploaded at en-Wp the missing five illustrations from that book (also as PD-US-1923-abroad). Lupo 21:55, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Substing a user-space license template

I also have another bot request. In all these images (but only on the images; I don't know if that page is linked anywhere else), the transclusion {{User:Btr/add-on}} should be replaced by this text. That's essentially the same as subst'ing this transclusion, but since User:Btr may change the template again, it's important to take the text from that precise revision. (Background info: this is a user who left de-WP in a huff on November 17 and then tried to revoke the free licenses on all his images, claiming they hadn't been uploaded by him but by his children without his knowing. I don't believe anything of that, and it appears that neither do several other people. If your de-1 is sufficient, you can find info at User talk:Btr#Frage, Commons:Forum#User:Btr, Commons:Forum#Followup on Btr. An English summary is also at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Attention#User:Btr trying to retract CC licenses. He first tried tagging all his uploads as {{Copyvio}}, and now tried changing his "add-on" subpage to some text forbidding commercial usages despite the free licenses he had granted earlier.) Could that substitution be done by a bot, please? Lupo 21:55, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

You wrote: The reason that license templates are substituted is that it can be seen from the page history of the image whether the license has changed. I don't see a reason to substitute this attribution template. My reasoning was that he's using this formerly attribution template now as a license-restriction template, and we can't see from the image page history when a change occurs. Lupo 22:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi there

I want to know is you support, encourage or have something to do with this behavior, I only want you to know that my students, all children [9-13 year-old] access frequently this site for their homework. They think that it is altogether a good idea. Please, can you explain me, why this language has not been addressed or I am missing something and this way of writing is encouraged in here? I am writing to you because you are an administrator who has welcomed this user here and so you might be compelled to do something about it. Thank you with anticipation and respect for your prompt corrective actions and explanations -JohnManuel 02:05, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

The page was hit by a vandal (which you would see if you clicked "history" at the top of the page). I reverted it within 3 minutes of you pointing it out. Be bold if you see inappropriate content. This is a wiki, remove it. Check the page history first to see who wrote the inappropriate content, then leave them a warning note. Bryan welcomed the user long before the vandalism occurred, and he doesn't have a crystal ball, he can't watch every page on the wiki. -Nard 02:20, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Why Bryan is not answering and how come you are answering for him in here? -JohnManuel 02:31, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
He's offline. I have his page on my watchlist. I see no reason I can't join your conversation :) It could be many hours or days until he returns to a computer. -Nard 02:34, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, I don't know him but is fine since you made the changes that needed to be done, Great, good luck with your time -JohnManuel 03:38, 25 November 2007 (UTC)

Orgullobot

Hi there, it seems that Orgullobot couldn't replace local images with commons images. Magnus and I would like to have this feature, in order to upload files under a new name. Can you maybe add an option or something? I just tested it again here and it didn't work. Thanks, --Flominator 09:51, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I won't implement such a function. I think that we should not replace images on local wikis that are not on Commons. It's a potential source of conflicts between Commons and the local communities and I don't want to risk that. -- Bryan (talk to me) 11:21, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
This would only work if you first delete the media on the local wiki and issue the replace command for a universal replace after that. CommonsDelinker does not touch links for which local media are present. Cheers! Siebrand 16:10, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
Nice workaround ... Thanks. --Flominator 07:45, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Bryan, some months ago you gave me some flickr regexes. Thank you for that. Now I figured, that I might not be the only one, that needs to transform Flickr urls to IDs. What do you think about some little script, that just does that and can be called from any other tool? That way people wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel any time. Just a thought, --Flominator 07:52, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi Bryan. I guess ur still late to delete an other images which were uploaded by me. Once u deleted Kristine Hermosa, this time Remmy Ongala, I am sick & tired with all this shit anymore.
