Hello, Cflm001!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Democracy claims map[edit]

Hi. I'm writing to you about the democracy claims map you created. First off, good work, but I wanted to point out that Fiji should probably be switched from green to red. Following the military coup of December 2006, and the abrogation of the Constitution in April 2009, it makes no claim to be a democracy at present. Rather, the government has stated it aims to restore democracy by 2014. Whether Tonga should be green or red is also a matter of debate, and would depend on whether the goverment has ever referred to it as being a democracy at present. I don't think it has, since the current reforms aim to make it into a democracy for 2010. Aridd (talk) 13:07, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:MSFT_5years.PNG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Barrel-stave_trunk.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Thank you for your contributions. Your image or other content, File:Lgo cineario.svg, was recently deleted, or will soon be deleted, in accordance with our process and policies, because it was not, or is not, within our scope. Please review our project scope, but in short, Commons is targeted at educational media files including photographs, diagrams, animations, music, spoken text and video clips. The expression “educational” is to be understood according to its broad meaning of “providing knowledge; instructional or informative”. Wikimedia Commons does not contain text articles like encyclopedia articles, textbooks, news, word definitions and such. Each of these other kinds of content have their own projects: Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikisource, Wikinews, Wiktionary and Wikiquote. If the content seems to fit the scope of one of those other projects, please consider contributing it there. Otherwise, consider an alternative outlet. If you think that the deletion was in error because the contribution really was in scope, you can appeal it at Commons:Undeletion requests, giving a reason why it fits our scope to help others evaluate the matter. Thank you for your understanding.

APEC member countries[edit]

Hi, saw you created a 180-centered map of the APEC-countries. I'd like to use a similar one for the en:APEC Business Travel Card, but with different colours for the full members (all except US, Canada) and transitional members (US, Canada) of the scheme. Would it be possible for you to make one? Just let me know! (PS, if it is rel. easy, please consider making one with a different (3rd) colour for Mexico as well; I don't get clear what their status is...) Thanks! L.tak (talk) 17:27, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mispelling[edit]

Hi there, at

this diagram

is a little mispelling on the left hand side. The correct term is Freiheit, not Frenilheit. I don´t have any experience with svg, otherwise I would fix it by myself. Kind regards --Kallewirsch (talk) 11:35, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Democracy claims map 2[edit]

Hi again. Just to suggest that it may now be possible to shift Tonga from red to green on the map. Following the November 2010 general election, a majority of MPs are now elected by ordinary citizens ("commoners"), and the Tongan media are talking about "Tonga’s first democratically elected Parliament". (Fiji, of course, should remain red, as the government there makes no pretense at being democratic, merely saying that democracy will be restored in 2014.) Hey, maybe we can put Turkey with bright green because there is a political party in the parliament which recognizes 1915 as genocide. You can see in the link : http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/bdp-urges-turkey-to-offer-apology-to-armenians.aspx?pageID=238&nid=45534

Hi there![edit]

Hello! I was wondering if it would be possible to update File:Chemical Weapons Convention 2007.svg by identifying North Korea and Syria in teal (Parties which have declared chemical weapon stockpiles and/or have known chemical weapon facilities). I just gave North Korea and weapons of mass destruction a read and wound up on the Chemical weapon article which is where I found the map. Syria also admitted to having chemical weapons in 2012 according to a reference on Syria and weapons of mass destruction. Anywho, thanks much for your time. dainomite 03:47, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have made a very clear and informative chart. Could you possibly update it with newer data (HDI is now published until 2012) or provide us with the source data you compiled, to avoid a lot of work reproducing it? Thanks! JFG (talk) 15:33, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Typo in saturn moon picture[edit]

Hi. Great picture you created here: File:Enceladus_Cold_Geyser_Model.svg

Could you change the words: "Temp =~ 77K" to be "Temp ~= 77K".

The tilde (~) is supposed to be before the equal sign, not after. See Tilde#As_a_relational_operator.

As the picture is now: Some readers may read it is a negative sign: Temp = -77K, which is totally wrong of course.

Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 73.157.69.99 (talk) 15:38, 04 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
