[edit] Your images
Hi Chris. Do you know what's going on with your images? After downloading and opening it in the Inkscape I see a caption "broken image". Your pictures are not seen in the Wikimedia Commons, too – just have a look on your gallery, external gallery or on the list of new images. /odder 12:55, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- I am not too sure. I tried putting some up yesterday which i converted from png to svg in inkscape but then i realised i had not done it right so i have redone them all and uploaded them again today. There is often a database lag when you put up new svg's as the database needs to draw them. I am hoping that this is all the problem is and that they will start to show up soon. Are the ones you have tried to open in inkscape the latest ones that i put up today, or are they the ones from yesterday? If you view the image directly (ie the file, not the page. eg here) you can see the image ok. I am just getting new to inkscape so i may have made a mistake, which is why i havent added the superseded template to the older png versions. I think they were saved as inkscape svg's, but i dont know why it would come listed as broken image. Chris huh 13:07, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed it. There was an extra xml node in the svg markup. I deleted this and reuploaded all the files. I guess that when i convert a trace the bitmap in inkscape it keeps the png in the file, and it was trying to load that. Chris huh 13:53, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image collection
I was wondering if you'd considered putting your cetacean images into a single scale diagram, like this one but with more species? Pengo 00:18, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- I liked the idea so have put together something with all the species i have a size comparison for. It is in SVG and i am having a bit of problem with the fonts as i do not have the correct ones (and i don't really understand SVG that much). I will have to do a bit more work on it, and hopefully add a few more species when i can find acceptable size comparisons for them. Chris_huhtalk 13:33, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Wow that's awesome :) I usually try just to use the generic "Sans" font in SVGs. Shame it would be so difficult to change the outlines of them to all be the same width. Pengo 01:03, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Posterization
I've submitted your beautiful picture to Neat Image, a freeware de-noising software. Unfortunately this free version does not keep the Exif information and compresses the pictures a lot. Here is the result, I think it is an improvement over the other versions. Cheers, Alvesgaspar 09:01, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Pacific sleeper shark
Hi Chris. Many thanks for all the great distribution maps. There have been questions raised about the distribution of Somniosus pacificus (see talkpage) - I've had a quick look & there do appear to be some inconsistencies. According to Fishbase's map this shark lives in two global bands, in the north & in the south, but the article just says between 70° N and 47° S which includes the tropics. The other thing is your map doesn't include the southern distribution. Was there a reason? Is the southern population only conjectural? Cheers GrahamBould 12:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- There could be a few errors, looking at fishbase there does seem to be some. Since i made so many i may have not been accurate enough. I got the map from the book Compagno, Leonard; Dando, Marc & Fowler, Sarah (2005). Sharks of the World. Collins Field Guides. ISBN 0-00-713610-2 which i don't have with me at the moment so i can't check if i just missed something. I noticed after i uploaded a load, some fo the binomials weren't correct, when it comes to taxonomy it can get tricky. I can edit the map to have fishbases range on it too, or just leave it until i get the book again. Chris_huh 14:08, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Category:Delphininae
Hi Chris,
I created the subfamilies of Delphinidae. But I am not sure anymore that it is a good idea as no wikipedia except the french one recognize them.
I was about to revert my work, but I prefer to ask others.
Do you have any opinion about keepingor removing those subfamilies ?
Cheers, Liné1 (talk) 10:02, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
- Hey, i haven't seen the subfamilies used before, looking at MSW they don't seem to be used there either. I would probably not bother with them, but i suppose if it takes a bit of work then leaving them in shouldn't really be a problem. Chris_huh 15:57, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
