Hello Leave me a note below! :)
[edit] Re:Image
Hey! Yes, I'm using that to upload tests and random temporary things to to avoid having them scattered across various image names. I have a png and an svg with the same name (I deleted those ones though, I think); the svg is especially useful when testing how they render after upload or how well they scale.
I could delete them when I don't need them any more but I figure there's no point as I'll just upload things to the same name later anyway. This keeps old versions around and nice and tidy in one spot so I don't have to search across image space for old tests/example images; SVG rendering problems are also a hassle and tend to really fill up image version histories so keeping the mess contained makes sense.
Thanks for doing some spring cleaning... as long as I'm not the one to delete all those unsourced images in 6 days ;-) -- Editor at Large • talk 02:53, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- Ha, most of them are unlicensed, so just stick with unsourced, and you'll be fine :) - cohesion 05:07, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Pallopteridae, Chola Bronzes
Hello The Palloptera jpeg is from a scan of an old (1856 or so) work. The Chola bronze is my own photo Analogue and scanned. I have amende the pages. I hope correctly. Sorry no to have at the time. Best wishes from Ireland RobertNotafly
- No problem, I removed the no license tag from the image also. When you add a license you can do that also, otherwise it might still get deleted :O If you have any questions let me know :) - cohesion 11:55, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kansas highway shields
You just tagged two Kansas highway shields that I uploaded as not specifying source/copyright information. I believe if you examine the information given on the page you'll find that all required information has already been supplied. —Scott5114↗ 17:56, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
- Reply on talk page. - cohesion 02:04, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- It's a little complicated, actually...
- The original vectors were created by the Kansas Department of Transportation and placed on their website in a PDF.
- Jonathan N. Winkler extracted them and saved them to SVG format, making the statement given in the Permissions section of the template.
- I changed the numbers to create shields for different highways (Winkler provided only the shield for K-96). —Scott5114↗ 18:14, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

- So, if they were created by the Kansas DOT they are probably not public domain, but copyright KDOT. Derivative works of copyrighted works are also copyrighted. These images could be used under a fair use claim in some articles on the English wikipedia, but they should be uploaded there rather than commons. Commons only stores images and media under en:free content licenses. - cohesion 01:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I concur. Any U.S. Road shield that designates an Interstate Highway, U.S. Route, or State Highway are in the public domain. This includes, but not limited to, KDOT shields, PA Route shields, CA State Route shields, etc. All of these shields are somehow based on the MUTCD, see w:Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads/Shields/Research for details. - They may be public domain, I will ask at the help desk. I'm not really arguing that they are or aren't though, whatever their license is, it needs to be tagged. :) - cohesion 03:35, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Question
Thank you for your notice. Please delete this[1] picture, it was a mistake, I took it from english wikipedia [2] - I found another one [3] provided with a proper license now. Thank you for your efforts concerning this matter. Spetsedisa 22:48, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, the image is marked as no source already, so it will be deleted eventually. Thanks for looking in to this. :) - cohesion 01:07, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright of harry shaffer.jpg
Hi, Thanks for the message. This picture was taken by an unknown student many years ago I think. I found it at the facebook website. The author is unknown. Also, the photo is of a professor who does have a problem in having his photograph here. Please advise on how to change the license tag and which license to chose. —the preceding unsigned comment is by Vidyashankara (talk • contribs)
- The author is more important than the subject actually. If you don't know the source or author, then it can't be included on commons. We need to know both the source and the license of images. For more information see Commons:Licensing - cohesion 01:14, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Fixed. I have added the copyright status. I am adding it as my own creation. This is verified in the Shaffer Facebook group. --Vidyashankara 01:22, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Our goal is to accurately source images, not only to fulfill some rule set. If, as you said, the image was taken by an unknown student, claiming now that you took the image is not a solution. Our sources and licenses need to be accurate. - cohesion 17:45, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Love_gift_-_Calyx_krater_Aegisthos_painter_ca_460_BCE.jpg
Please restore this image as permission has been granted by the museum and thus it has been placed by them in the public domain. I do not know how to fix this myself. Haiduc 02:01, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Permission does not imply public domain. If you have more information on this I would be happy to help explain anything. The commons can't use images that only have permission to be used on commons, they have to be freely licensed so that other downstream users can use them freely as well. Please see the licensing page for more information. Also, if you do have correct information and licensing now feel free to re-upload the image and tag it correctly. I didn't delete the image and am not an administrator on commons, so I also cannot restore it. - cohesion 02:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
That image page had text clearly documenting that the institution had released the image into the public domain for Wikipedia use. What more than that is necessary to maintain an image on the site? I appreciate that you are performing an useful function, but in this case it was totally uncalled for. And finding that image again is not a trivial task. Haiduc 11:20, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- The image was untagged at the least, and if there was textual information its licensing status wasn't obvious to me or the deleting admin. This was a while ago so I don't remember the specifics of the situation. All images need to be tagged using the licensing tags at Commons:Copyright tags so that they can be categorized and their license status made clear. An image is either in public domain or not, it is not possible to release something into the public domain for only wikipedia to use. - cohesion 12:11, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
You know very well what I am saying - the matter was explained to the museum and they agreed to release it as per the Wikipedia requirements. I have to tell you, this is a major disincentive to add any more images to the Commons. I cannot be running around after legitimately contributed images, all the more so as I very rarely visit the Commons. If this is what happens after I go to all the work to contribute an image and then communicate with the museum and obtain and post permission, only to be told that I have to go and repair the damage myself because the person who did the damage does not have the authority to undo it and does not want to be bothered to find someone who does, I am out of the Commons. I do not need to be here since I contribute to the English Wikipedia, and will simply post my images there henceforth. Please address any future communication to my user page there. Haiduc 00:59, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry you feel that way, If you ever have any questions or decide to come back I'd be happy to help if I can. - cohesion 01:22, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Le Thoronet
Sorry, I don't speak english. So, I'm going to write in french.

- I can read french ok, and understand what you are saying, but if I replied it would be bad. So, in english, hope that is ok. The images didn't have a license tag on them so people can't know what license they were. When you upload an image you need to select one of the license tags from Commons:Bandeaux de licence. Sorry for any inconvenience. :( - cohesion 02:01, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Gondrecourt.JPG
As I explained in the discussion page, this file should be deleted (replaced by another in the meantime), but I am not allowed to do it. Could you please do it ? Thanks. Ji-Elle 07:09, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
- I am not an administrator. I did see your note, it will be deleted now though in a few days, is that ok? - cohesion 11:41, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

It should be delayed... I didn't realised that there is already a simillar one File:Moldova medievala.gif <-> . Thanks and sorry J a1 15:25, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
- No problem, I have replaced the uses of the untagged one, so shouldn't be any problems. (one use on plwiki) :) - cohesion 15:56, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

Hello Cohesion!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Commons images are used by editors on many projects in many languages. Each image is put into categories. This helps other editors find them. Please add categories to each image you upload.
To add an image to a category, add the following code to the end of the page.
- [[Category:Category Name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbit of comets, add the following to the image description page:
- [[Category:Astronomy diagrams]]
- [[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories: Astronomy diagrams, Comets.
For further information on categories read Commons:Categories.
The CommonSense Tool often helps you find the best category for your image.
Here is a gallery of your images. Please check that each image has a category. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the help desk. Thank you.
