Argyll Coat of Arms[edit]

This is most probably a funny coincidence, but the Argyll coat of arms resembles the symbols of the capital-city of Lisbon, Portugal. See below. Cheers! The Ogre (talk) 13:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:Earl of Rothes arms.svg[edit]

You have made an error here, the tincture of the bend should be Azure (blue) not gules (red) as you have illustrated and blazoned. Per Debrett's Peerage, 1968. I would change it myself but am not competent on inkscape. Can you change it please? Thanks, (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 21:57, 17 June 2012 (UTC))

Category:Tadpoles_in_heraldry[edit]

Commons-emblem-issue.svg Category:Tadpoles_in_heraldry has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Earl of Mar and Kellie Arms[edit]

I thought I got them from cracofts peerage online, but I checked and listed the same arms you have. Perhaps they updated and corrected their mistake (the site has had other flaws). Tinynanorobots (talk) 09:06, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Mackitosh of Mackitosh arms.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. Thank you.

Hello. This image and the one above have been deleted because you didn't grant any free licences for them. As far as I remember you only provided a description of the arms, but not any information about the intended copyright status of your work. Please note also that I didn't delete them and can't undelete them, too, because I'm not an administrator on Commons. Please ask Fastily or JuTa who performed the deletions. De728631 (talk) 15:22, 18 September 2013 (UTC)
Hi, I rececked the history. There never was a license within the description pages. Only a {{insignia}} was included at the permission field. Feel free to repuoad the files, but ensure to apply a license. {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} is recommanded, but there are a lot of more possibilities. regards. --JuTa 07:12, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
What JuTa said. The {{insignia}} template itself is not a copyright statement but a sort of disclaimer explaining why arms can freely be drawn by anyone. The specific design is however copyrighted to the artist. That's why I tagged the images (see my signature in the templated messages above). Cheers, De728631 (talk) 17:34, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Arms Rose of Kilravock[edit]

I think you are doing a great job and love the work. I'm new to the site and will sign up to help with the heraldry work. But I was doing some research on the battle of Harlaw where a Rose of Kilravock is stated to have been with the Provost Davidson and was looking for the armorial. You are the one that did the work being used on the site. The armorial is also recorded in the genealogical history of the family and you have correctly stated it to be "Or, a boar's head couped Gules, between three water bougets Sable" but have the boars head erased in the render not couped. If you are interested the Lord Lyon records the crest: "above the shield, on a helmet befitting his rank, mantled gules, doubled argent; next is placed on a wreath of his colour, for his crest, one harp azure". This is rendered into the clan crest on wikipedia. Hope this helps. Family locator (talk) 06:55, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
