[edit] orphan images are useles
Hello - thank you for providing images to the wikimedia commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to the commons should be useful to all users of wikimedia projects - this is possible only if the images can be found by other people. To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should either place the images on topic pages (galleries) or put the images directly into a category, or do both. Which of those possibilities is preferred is however a matter of debate, see here.
For your musical symbols, you may for instance use Category:Musical notation
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There is a large number of completely unsorted images on the commons right now, see Commons:Really unused. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do! Thank you. -- Duesentrieb(?!) 23:54, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Colours of the Flag of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.svg
Hi,
What is your source for the correct colours of the DRC flag? ---moyogo 14:51, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- I used the image from the World Flag Database. Denelson83 22:42, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I have reasons to believe these colours are not "correct". Even if both sets of colours, with dark blue or with sky blue, are being used by congolese media, it seems the correct colours are with the sky blue. First of all flags.net has wrong data about the languages spoken in the Congo, which makes me wonder about the quality of their data overall. Secondly the official website of the President of the DRC (http://www.presidentrdc.cd/) has the sky blue flag. The the CIA World Factbook also has a sky blue flag: http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/flags/cg-flag.html But seeing both sets of flags all over the place, with the fact that the Constitution doesn't really define if it light or dark blue, I'd say both sets are ok, with a preference for the light blue one for the reasons given above. http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/cd.html also uses dark blue, so it's a bit confusing. ---moyogo 12:32, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

I've come across this picture : http://permanent.nouvelobs.com/photos/20060219.OBS3917.jpg on http://permanent.nouvelobs.com/etranger/20060219.OBS7247.html It shows the old flag up with soldiers holding the new flags at the promulgation of the new constitution yesterday. Both new and 1997 flags have light blue (the article mentions both had sky blue back colour). What should we do? Currently both our new and 1997 flags bear dark blue. ---moyogo 15:42, 19 February 2006 (UTC) Here’s another picture: http://www.mmcnews.com/news_images/constitution-drapeau.jpg from http://www.digitalcongo.net/fullstory.php?id=64742 . You changed the dimensions of the flag to 7:5, probably using the World Flag Database as a source. I'm pretty sure of thta the deminsions used in earlier versions 25:18 is correct. My sources for that is Flags of the World and my interpretation of the Iclenadic law Lög um þjóðfána Íslendinga (first paragraph). Now I'm not Icelandic and could have misunderstod the text. Just thought it would be best to tell you why I reverted your edit since it doens't say anything in the revert summary. Jeltz 15:44, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

I uploaded a new version, with (more or less) correct colors (see en:Flag of Serbia). I "reverse-engineered" the Pantone colors from the official CorelDraw version from the site above. Even if they're wrong, they're only slightly wrong – they were very wrong in the older version. Duja 08:30, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
What about licensing of this file? Is it really "inelligible for copyright"? Once again, I find wikilicensing confusing. Duja 08:30, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flags of Venezuela
I'd lik to traduce to you the law of the flag for your better understanding the them:
about the National Flag
Article 2. The National Flag is that the Republic Congress adopted in 1811, formed by the colours yellow, blue, and red; in united, equal, horizontal bands; in the order that stays expressed, up to down.
The Natonal Flag used by Presidency of the Republic and the National Armed Forces, as wich one hoisted in National, State and Municipal Public Buildings most show the Coat of Arms of Venezuela in the corner next to the spear of the yellow band, and, in the middle of the blue band, seven five-branches white stars shown in an circle arc with convexity to up side. National Flag uesd by teh Merchant Navy just shows the seven stars
Article 3. National Executive branch has the authority to rule the shape and dimensions of standards, emblems, and insignia that will use National Flag colours, as any other use of them in condecorations and emblems.
Article 4. National Armed Forces flags, standards, emblems and emblems shape, use and dimensions will be ruled by the militar laws and codes.
Article 5. National Flag should be hoist in: (...)
- From article 1, we most know: the flag used in 1811. Before that date, Francisco the Miranda has been proposed rename America (continet) as Colombia in honour of Chritopher Colombus. That idea was accepted in northern South America. Mach 12, 1806 Francisco de Miranda claims the independence of the countre, hoisting a triband flag as shown in this page, after known as "Bandera Madre" ("Mother Flag"). Is that flag that was proclamed in 1811 an that colours where accpted also for the following Repúbica de Colombia (Great Colombia). then:
- When current Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador split from Great Colobia, they kept the ssame colours for their flags. Thinctures used in Hispanic America were the same across the region, so same "red" (strictly "encarnado") used in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela flag is the same used in Perú, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile and Spain flags; same for yellow and blue.
- Form same article we also advice that stars are not used in all the versiona, it has also it's historic reasons: Stars are not used until 1817, where it's given a law to use seven blue stars in the yellow band when used by Navy. That's the origin of the stars.
I wish now you could be accord to the design that I uploaded. By the way, you posted the cibil flag I uploaded for beeing deleted, but it's naming was right for the proyect of flags. Also by the way, Pablellón Nacioanl del Peru.svg is no longer used in any Wikimedia proyect, so it should be good for deleeting it. See you. [edit] Request
hi Denelson, thanks for your excellent work. I have a request to make: Do you think you could also convert this image Image:Dienstflagge Austria.png into an svg. but making it look exactly like the png. version (same colour, same proportions, etc.) It is also the state flag, however there are different versions of the state flag. One that you created (Image:Flag of Austria (state).svg) is used on embassies for example, and the one I am requesting is used more specifically by the government (on cars for example) and the military. You can see the difference because the proportions are totally different. Feel free to ask if you have any questions, I'm really looking forward to it, thanks. Gryffindor 23:06, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
- That was quick, wow. But the size is still different, the original png. is shorter on its length. The svg. is also smaller than the png. The colours are also different, or is that not possible with svg.? I don't wanna sound complicated, but I really wanted an exact 1:1 of the png. to the svg..... :-/ Gryffindor 00:18, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Hi, would you be able to fix Image:Flag of Macau.svg please? The current flag on Commons is apparently an old version; the bar directly below the flowers should be curved/smooth (as shown on the government website), contrary to the current straight one. The Macau Wikipedians on Chinese Wikipedia have pointed this out, but seem unsure of who to ask for help. Could you help? Thanks! -- tonync (talk) 11:59, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- Fantastic. Thank you very much. -- tonync (talk) 02:38, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry, the Macau Wikipedians think the current edition still needs working on. They point out a problem with the size of the stars and the linear patterns in the bottom. Would this link help? Thank you for your patience and generous help! -- tonync (talk) 03:58, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think there's a proper construction sheet to the flag. I think the flag only needs one final touching up anyway -- the size of the stars are good now; a Macau Wikipedian points out that in the bottom half of the symbol, the thickness of the green lines increases as the white decreases. -- tonync (talk) 13:25, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Flag of the African Union.svg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}} to release it under the GFDL or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. [edit] Template:Copyvio
Hi I'am currently redesigning the deletion template scheme towards more simplicity, thus I reverted your change. I know that images with copyvio tagged are currently not listed as deletion request but they are in fact deletion requests. A user has 7 days correcting the thing otherwise the file will be deleted. The Template:Copyvio (and other similar) will be discouraged in future. All people should use Template:Delete then. It is important to have one template to rule them all as currently our users are confused by the large number of deletion templates. I will also rewrite the deletion guidelines after the change in order to reflect this new approach but one step after the other ;-) Arnomane 11:26, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Denelson83. You have many good flags here, which obviously represent lots of effort. However, I noticed that your CARICOM flag was different from the one that I have seen on CARICOM's own website. Your reference was http://www.flags.net/CARI.htm but perhaps we should use the flag/standard seen at CARICOM's own website: http://www.caricom.org/jsp/community/caricom_standard.jsp?menu=community . [edit] Keyboard layouts
There's a slight problem involving the keyboard layout images you've produced, such as Image:KB United States.svg. In Firefox, most of the keys are rendered with a white background. In IE, they have a gray background. MediaWiki converts to pngs, and those must surely be the same for IE and Firefox, so I assume those browsers are rendering them differently. Image:KB United States Dvorak.svg (which I created from Image:KB United States.svg) doesn't suffer from this — it always has a white background. However, I'm not sure what was intended. --StuartBrady 13:41, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

He used a 2:3 ratio for the flag. I would prefer a 3:5 ratio as it's common for most national flags and also used for the Red Cross/Cresent/Crystal/Lion/Star flags. If you agree, please upload a 3:5-version. I think the image can uploaded under the same name... Just a simple job, I know. But I can do it... Thanks. -- burts ∞ 15:13, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi Denelson83! I just noticed this image and your call for deletion. The cause why the image isn't displayed is that your "implemented" PNG image is just a link to a file on your hard disc which is truly pretty difficult to reach for the Wikimedia renderer ;) ("C:\Documents and Settings\D****n\Local Settings\Temp\YUV.png"). [edit] RE: Flag of Canada
Greetings! Thanks for your note; no problem. Not to necessarily question the authority of the Cdn Heritage grid (which I'm familiar with), though, but you might want to take a glance at the true prototype for the Canadian flag: as depicted in the original proclamation (in I Stand for Canada by Archbold) -- the maple leaf is described as being 'of the first' and appears sligthly different than depicted and popularised. In support of my decision to centre the leaf, I believe one of the originators of the original Wp SVG file (whom you directed me to) created a construction sheet image with the leaf centred. My point: the uncentred maple leaf appears slightly off and I'm unsure that it's precise placement (i.e., as reverted) is prescribed.
On a similar note, I intend on enhancing some of the Canadian provincial/territorial flags: I believe some of the SVG files are not true representations of those flags (e.g., Alberta). Otherwise, good work and let me know if you have any questions.Cogito ergo sumo 05:03, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Polish flag
Hi, I recently uploaded several images of Polish flags which differ from the ones uploaded by you. I believe mine are better in terms of legal requirements found in Polish law (especially different shades of white and red). The problem is that they are in PNG format and I have no software to convert them to SVG. Would you be able to do this, please? See: Talk:Polska#Request for PNG to SVG conversion. [edit] Flag of Mexico
Hello Denelson. I was wondering if you could help me make a bigger version of the current file "Flag of Mexico.svg" based in "Flag of Mexico.png". Since I cannot create SVG files I made a bigger version of the PNG file. I hope you can help me. AlexCovarrubias 01:51, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flag of Ukraine
I believe that the original Flag of Ukraine represents the national flag better. I'm Ukrainian myself, if that counts. Let's discuss it before switching back and forth between those two flags. Akhristov 06:25, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "The author of xrmap"
Hi Denelson83! You have uploaded a great number of SVG flags, created by the "author of xrmap" -- do you happen to know his/her actual name, so that we can use a proper {{PD-author}} tag instead of the deprecated {{PD}}. Cheers, Himasaram 02:11, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- See Image:Flag of Liechtenstein.svg for my attempt to 'fix' the licensing tag: Many admins don't accept the {{PD}} tag as proper licensing. --Himasaram 02:43, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

I have also requested the deletion of Image:Flag of Bouvet Island (rectangular).svg for the same reason. Having these flags on commons has resulted in a number of wikipedias using the flags as if they were the official or semi-official flags of the island. Separate articles have even been created for them without any reference. Inge 16:20, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
