Hi, what you need to do is nothing deeper than "I made this picture myself" (with a half-million images of all sorts, we can't ever assume anything). The template GFDL-self, which you put in just by pasting in GFDL-self when editing the image page, takes care of both source and license. You can see an example of use on one of my uploads, Image:Greyia radlkoferi 3.jpg for instance. Stan Shebs 23:03, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

Yes, scans from old books are fine, and are all in the public domain ("PD-old" tag). After all, if the scan is accurate, then the person doing the scanning has not added any creative material of their own... Stan Shebs 13:36, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Draco! I moved your plug photo requests for Israel and Thailand from Commons:Picture requests/Requests/Europe to Commons:Picture requests/Requests/Asia WhisperToMe (talk) 03:22, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, I haven't seen that this part is dedicated to Europe. Draco flavus (talk) 08:37, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Draco flavus!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
