[edit] Making Friends

Hello! Thank you for contacting me and giving me guidance. I am thrilled to have interacted with an administrator, especially one that has appreciated my contributions to Wikimedia and I can have as a Wiki-friend. Having looked at talk pages of articles, especially things that have to do with maps, I have noticed a lot of hostility between users and I am happy my first acquaintance has been friendly.

My goal in Wikimedia is to help where help is needed. I have noticed excess files that are duplicated, inaccurate and/or meaningless on the commons and thought it would be a good idea to clean it up. I am doing this to help, not to cause ‘vandalism’. I think, if people were to think about it, for example, how many images of the global version of the Spanish Empire do we really need? That particular collection of files had over 100 redundant, inaccurate or otherwise ridiculous files.

How do you become an administrator? I have been slightly interested in these ‘special accounts’ and wondered how they are claimed. As I said before, my intention is to help and not make matters worse and administrators have ‘higher power’. I probably never will “need” an administrator account and just have you as an administrator-ally. 99.226.115.81 00:06, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

Heloo again! I see you havn't responded to my first comment yet but that's fine, no rush. I went to what i thought was the talk page you had left feedback and put something there. it wasn't the right one. it was my talk page on Wikipedia which i would likew to keep untouched. Could you please delete the page. just type in or copy this into your WIKIPEDIA search bar to get to the page I would like deleted: User Talk:99.226.11581. Thanks. 99.226.115.81 02:26, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Anonymous Protests (March 15)

Hi,
I noticed you attended the previous “anonymous” protests for Wikinews. Will you be able to cover the March 15 protests? Please be aware that preparation for the March 10 protest is being coordinated at this page. If you think you could report on the article for Wikinews add your name to the list.

I noticed that you cropped images from Koeh series, like Image:Koeh-022.jpg. I think that is great, but you should have included those captions in the image description. --Jarekt 15:04, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] deprecated function in your monobook.js

Dear user, I noticed that you use the includePage function in your monobook.js page.

This function is now obsolete, as the importScript function was introduced with rev:35064 to the MediaWiki Javascript core library wikibits.js. It also keeps track of already imported files.

To allow us to remove includePage from Mediawiki:Common.js I'd kindly ask you to replace its use with importScript (same syntax!). Thanks! --Dschwen 17:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Might I ask you for help?

Hi. I recently tried to convert a bitmap (.png) graphic (a chemical structural formula) into a vectorised graphic (.svg), using InkScape... It didn't work out as it should; I've read the guidelines for vectorisation of bitmap images, but my skills are apparently too poor to accomplish this yet. Could you please help me..? The .png image I wanted to convert into .svg is this one: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Methyldopa.png ... I'll be thankful, if you could vectorise it and/or explain me how to do it myself. Thank you in advance;) Cheers, --Spiperon (talk) 13:56, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you;)--Spiperon (talk) 15:15, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much;) Now I'm almost done with the graphic thanks to your tutorial... Just one question: I've made an image that consists now of ~30 objects and paths; how do I "bind" them together and vectorize finally? Thank you again... --Spiperon (talk) 00:41, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I made 2 more tries, it works in my browser, however, it doesn't appear as an image in the file here on Commons... So I hope I made it right, if not, I'll look up tommorow. Thank you very much;). --Spiperon (talk) 02:35, 27 July 2008 (UTC) (P.S.: Hope you get well soon).
Yay, I did it! :D MethyldopaFinal.svg did work out as it should. Could you please delete following images:
Methyldopa2.svg
Methyldopa3.svg
MethyldopaVect.svg
MethyldopaExplicitChirality.svg
MethyldopaVectorized.svg ? I uploaded these trying to get the one .svg working and as it finally got like I supposed, these are superfluous... Thank you so much once again;) --Spiperon (talk) 17:23, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Is this Correct

I just uploaded Image:Carnival miracle.jpg, and I'm not sure if I did the licensing correctly. Sorry if it is not free. By the way, are there any images on PhotoBucket that are free? Goodvac (talk) 19:51, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Found article without an image

I'm without the status to replace the "non-picture" therefore I'm hoping to just state the article that lacks its photo: the article can be found by looking up George Hearn and there isn't a picture there and I have found one from google: http://www.timeout.com/chicago/export_images/125/125.x190.theat.georgehearn.jpg. That's about it really =) but i'll post more if i find any...

[edit] File:Artibeus sp. Costa Rica.jpg

Hi Ayelie. If the IP is right, it might be better to delete the image. I got it from her (she is a tourist guide in the national park) and thought, she was the photographer. In articles, the image could be replaced with this one. --Leyo 06:02, 8 May 2009 (UTC) PS. Please reply here, thanks.

If you still have her email address, you can get her to send you a statement along the lines of "I verify that I am the photographer and copyright holder of this image, and I give permission for it to be uploaded to the Commons as {{licenseofchoice}}. Then you just have to forward the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and you're all set :) See COM:OTRS. If you can't get in touch with her or don't think she'll reply I can do as you suggested and replace use of that image with yours and delete her version. Let me know if you need it replaced & deleted and I'll take care of it! -- Editor at Largetalk 06:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I do not have the original e-mail with the image anymore. Do you think, the replacement image should be cropped first? The problem is that the leaves are sharp, but not the animals. --Leyo 06:27, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I think it should, yes - are you proficient at editing photos or would you like me to try? I know some tricks for sharpening things up a bit that might help. -- Editor at Largetalk 06:32, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
I am curious how well your tricks will work. :-) --Leyo 06:34, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Here you go :) Not perfect, but a slight improvement over the original. I'll replace the other photographer's image with this one and then delete it. -- Editor at Largetalk 06:48, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
All done, globally replaced and deleted. And please feel free to replace my upload if you can do a better job, my tricks are by no means the best ones :P -- Editor at Largetalk 07:07, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. --Leyo 07:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] John Goodricke

I notice you removed the request for deletion from the John Goodricke page. Please don't. This image is not in the public domain and has been the subject of a complaint by the Royal Astronomical Society to Wikipedia. The original uploader scanned a copyright image from Sky & Telescope without an acknowledgement to the source. The original art, the reproduction from which it was scanned, and the image rights are all unambiguously owned by the Royal Astronomical Society, on whose behalf I am attempting to have the image removed. [edit] Question about frame removal

Hi Ayelie, thanks for your recent work on frame removal - I had a question though with regard to File:Henry VIII (reigned 1509-1547) by English School.jpg. In this case it appears that the frame is a faux-frame that was part of the original painting - so we probably want to have both versions around (the cropped version is better for showing the subject, but the uncropped version is better for showing the complete painting). Is it okay with you if I upload the new version under a new name? Thanks. Dcoetzee (talk) 21:57, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. I'll double check with Berger about the frame. Dcoetzee (talk) 00:48, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Woops, I checked with Berger and it turns out "[t]he frame on our portrait of Henry VIII is an actual three-dimensional frame". My apologies for the error - I'll go ahead and delete the old revision. Dcoetzee (talk) 20:47, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] re: User:Nwtxqt

Nope, go right ahead. I was going to do another round of image sleuthing, but batch deletion seems to be the more efficient way to go about it. Thanks! --Ytoyoda (talk) 06:51, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

It was my intent to replace the current image with an official USG portrait, or a better one of her. I uploaded the second image to the crop version. Hope that's okay. Evrik (talk) 20:07, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Over zealous vandalism protection :-)

I think your deletion of page User:Rastaman3000 was an over zealous vandalism protection. It appears to me that User:Orbah1 just greeted Rastaman3000 with "WAZAPMAN?!--Orbah1 (talk) 15:19, 26 May 2009 (UTC)", probably translatable into English as "What's up man?!" and signature. A perfectly reasonable edit :-). --Tony Wills (talk) 22:58, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I didn't notice it was his user-page rather than talk-page, but still not quite vandalism! The deletion log comment wasn't quite appropriate, and it was something the users could have sorted out quite happily by themselves :-) --Tony Wills (talk) 12:14, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks. Did I get it right this time?

Thanks for your feedback. I've uploaded some more pictures. Please review File:Parrot (PSF).png and let me know if I did this correctly this time. Please respond at my talk page. And please delete File:Iguana 2 (PSF).png

[edit] User:66.17.183.2

The above IP address is used in a school, and I was using it when I got an warning from you for vandalizing, which obviously meant that someone else had vandalized, as I had not. Should there be a notice on the talk page telling people that this IP address is in a school? I know they have it on Wikipedia, but I wasn't sure about Wikimedia so I just thought I'd tell you... 66.17.183.2 15:31, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Problem with an SVG image

Hello. I'm very sorry to bother you, but I am having a problem with a SVG image I uploaded: File:Soyuz Diagram.svg. I'm not only new here (the commons), but this is the first SVG I have ever made, so bare with me! The text on the image, despite being fine in my graphics program, runs together in the render. I cannot work out the problem.
I made the image in CorelDRAW X3, and the font in meant to be in Times New Roman (the font on the orginal gif). When exporting the image it gave me the option of rendering the text as curves, but I left it as text. I admit I don't really know what that meant, so it could be the problem.
Any help you give would be much appricated. Once again, sorry to bother you. Thanks, --EightyOne (talk) 15:34, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

@ "Test" sent to my own IP for a photo comment-- No worries, I'm not a vandal... I suppose I just really liked the picture, but it's not "Testing", and it's not a vandal issue.

[edit] Genevieve Nnaji's picture

Hi. Your assistance is needed in this case here. A few days ago I uploaded this picture to wikimedia commons. I then got the written email permission from the owner of the picture and forwarded the email to permissions-commons-at-wikimedia.org. After that I contacted someone with an OTRS account, Trixt. Trixt confirmed the permission and fully released the picture under the required license. A few days later Trixt tagged the picture with the "Personality rights warning" tag. I asked Trixt why this is being done. You can read the reply of Trixt here and here on our talk pages. Finally, Trixt wrote me, saying that his english is bad, that I should get in touch with an English admin, that he doesn't know what to do.

I have checked through many wikipedia pages and have taken a close look at the pictures used from wikimedia commons. There are loads of pictures that do not have the "Personality rights warning" tag. Trixt claims that all pictures of living people should have that tag. This claim makes the whole issue suspicious. If all pictures of living people must be tagged with the "Personality rights warning", and the only way to properly upload pictures into wikimedia-commons is to get the approval of someone with an OTRS account, then what happened to all those pictures AFTER they were confirmed by someone with an OTRS account? How come those people with OTRS accounts didn't immediately tag these pictures with the "Personality rights warning" tag, the way Trixt did to the picture I uploaded? This looks like a double standard, and I thusly ask you to look into this and please remove the "Personality rights warning" tag from the picture in question.

The picture in question shows a nigerian actress, Genevieve Nnaji, in 2008 at a public event, the launch of Genevieve's new fashion label. Genevieve Nnaji is one of the top nigerian Nollywood actresses. She is also a model. Her pictures are all over Nigeria and Africa on billboards (she is the Face of Lux 2004), and she has played in over 100 Nollywood movies. Thus Genevieve Nnaji is a "person of contemporary history". She is a public figure. The picture I uploaded was taken by Niyi Tabiti, a nigerian journalist. Mr Tabiti has fully agreed to the full usage of the picture under wikimedia commons license. There are no personality right infringed with the usage of this picture. If wikimedia-commons claims, like Trixt does, that all pictures of living persons SHOULD be tagged, then this rule must apply to all pictures on wikimedia-commons. The fact that wikimedia-commons has loads of pictures of living persons without the "Personality rights warning" proves that different standards are being applied to different pictures. I thereby ask you to please remove the "Personality rights warning" from this picture. Thank you.

[edit] File:Si Tchernobyl vous a fait rire.jpg

In common colloquial English usage, "Don't miss..." can cover both of those subtle shades of meaning. I changed "Do not overlook" because it was very uncolloquial for the context of a political slogan... AnonMoos (talk) 18:37, 4 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit] File:Clampmeter Fluke 337.jpg

Hi. I included the picture into de:Zangenamperemeter. There are funny effects with the rotation: omitting the parameter upright or setting upright=1 leads to a distorted picture (the picture rotates 90° inside the upright frame). Setting upright=0.9 or 1.1 is OK. I have never seen this bevor. Is it somehow a consequence of your picture rotation? --Harke (talk) 18:49, 4 September 2009 (UTC)
